You see bridges. We see Europe.

Cohesion funds are helping European regions and communities get closer, one masterpiece at a time:

  • The Brăila Bridge, inaugurated today in , is the largest bridge over the Danube and Europe's third-longest.

  • The new Świnoujście Tunnel in is the longest EU-funded underwater tunnel at 1,440 metres in length.

Funded 85% by the , they show what can achieve.

@EU_Commission Ok, but why is it car infrastructure? We're supposed to be getting rid of car dependence if we are to achieve a sustainable future. Let's look at some railway investments instead.

Open and free connectivity is just as essential online as it is offline!
So the EU should fund open IT solutions the same ways it does for bridges and tunnels!

Now, we now want to ensure it is effectively enforced in cross-border cases.

Torture shatters life to fragments.

Today is the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture – marking the adoption of the #UN Convention against Torture in 1987.

Yet, four decades later, torture has not been eradicated.

Russia's ongoing full-scale invasion of #Ukraine is a glaring example of violations of human #rights and international #law.

In response, the #EU works with Ukraine through a Joint Investigation Team.

Today and every day, we speak out for a world free from torture.

@EU_Commission What do you think about the forced use of emetics on prisoners and detainees. In some cases they can cause ruptures in the esophagus/trachea, bruises in the respiratory system, and even death.

Famous case from Germany where the doctor ended up walking free after causing the death of an immigrant in police custody by forcibly administering him emetics: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2376004/

No, there won't be a paperclip apocalypse.

But we want to ensure any risk from AI is accounted for. And give all citizens a safe chance to make the most of it.

We welcome the agreement reached by the Council and the European Parliament on our proposal to set clear rules for AI.

It defines four levels of risk, bans unacceptable risk applications, and reduces administrative and financial burdens for businesses.

At the EU-China Summit, leaders discussed trade, climate change, and the digital economy with Chinese counterparts.

They emphasized the need for a fair economic relationship, increased climate ambition, and transparent regulation.

Effective management of this relationship is vital for prosperity and security.

2023
warmest year on record

This year has now had six record breaking months.

November had, for the first time ever, two days with a global temperature 2ºC above
preindustrial levels.

These extreme temperatures confirm that 2023 will be the warmest year in recorded history.

It serves as a stark reminder that we need to work together to drastically reduce emissions.

This is why we're pushing for stronger climate ambition, finance, and global energy goals at
