Across the EU, animal welfare standards for professional breeding, keeping and selling #dogs and #cats vary widely – resulting in sub-standard practices, sometimes even abuse.
We are introducing uniform rules:
✔ Setting minimum standards
✔ Tightening traceability for online sales to curb illegal trade
✔ Training for handlers and educating buyers on responsible ownership
✔ Import standards to match #EU welfare criteria
@EU_Commission This is guarded good news, but it is about disability paperwork, which all disabled people have to deal with quite a bit.
What announcements are there about how accessibility will be extended and improved throughout the EU? How are disabled people being included in leadership in the EU?
Canada, Britain and main EU countries join Myanmar genocide case
Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Britain have teamed up to join the genocide case over Myanmar's treatment of the Muslim Rohingya minority before the UN's top court in The Hague.
We are making a step towards our neighbouring countries and the enlargement.
We recommended that the Council:
🔹opens accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova,
🔹grants Georgia the status of a candidate country,
🔹opens #EU accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina once the necessary degree of compliance with the membership criteria is achieved.
Enlargement is an opportunity for the countries aspiring to join the European Union and us.
Facing a changing geopolitical and economic environment, we rose to the challenge of delivering a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable #economy.
In Versailles, two weeks after Russia's brutal aggression on Ukraine, #EU leaders vowed to take responsibility for our #security and strengthen sovereignty.
Since then, we have taken action to live up to the call. ↓
We built a stronger economic base on our Single Market:
→ de-risking our economy while ensuring economic openness;
→ addressing labour and #skills shortages;
→ securing critical resources and technologies.
And created a favourable environment for #investments:
→ providing loans and grants to EU countries via the #NextGenerationEU;
→ mobilising private investments via #InvestEU;
→ boosting #EU action via the STEP Platform.
@eivind@bookstodon It's seemed to me for a long time that Europeanization is really Romanization.
Europe has been perpetuating the errors of Rome since they first saw them. Rome -is- civilization, to Europe, and to America. We are still making their mistakes.
@EU_Commission I have fond memories of spending an evening in Darfo Boario Terme, with an Italian friend we were staying with, meeting up with a British friend, a Deaf British Sign Language user (and BSL teacher and much else), and an Italian Sign Language teacher. It was fascinating comparing the sign languages. We were also using an EU supported app, or website, I can’t remember which, but it was multilingual in Sign Languages. A much appreciated aid to communicating across nationalities, and appreciating our diversity and the things we have in common. #bsl#britishsignlanguage
Hi, @duco! We are committed to combating all forms of violence against anyone. However, violence against women is still a massive problem in the EU and beyond.
Did you know that at least two women are killed every day in the EU by an intimate partner or family member? The Gender Equality Index Report 2022 offers many more horrifying statistics, showing us that this is not a thing of the past and needs to be taken seriously: https://europa.eu/!pJbvkn
On 13 September at 09:00 am CEST, President von der Leyen will take stock of what we have achieved so far and present her vision and actions for the coming year.
The State of the Union will be about the decisive moments we have had and those lying ahead of us.
@EU_Commission
This Is al very well but appointing #Hoekstra as the successor of #Rimmermans is an affront to both the latter as the entire European people and last but not least the planet itself.
President Ursula von der Leyen announced the European Year of Skills during last State of the Union speech. Throughout 2023, we have been working hard to boost our targets: 60% of adults in training and 78% in employment by 2030!
How? 🤝
Through different #EU initiatives, like the Pact for Skills – 1,500+ members and 14 big partnerships in key sectors are pledging to upskill up to 6 million people.
