Our strength lies in our diversity.

We've been championing the inclusion of sign language through programs like Lifelong Learning and Erasmus+.

On this International Day of Sign Languages, our goal is to promote recognition by actively supporting its widespread use.

A big thank you to the European Union of the Deaf for their support in making this video! Happy to all.

A video showing an interpreter in different places around the Commission's headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, using International Sign to say: "Hi! I am Sara [[On screen, next to the text, there is the flag of Portugal]] We all love the EU United in Diversity!"

john,

@EU_Commission I have fond memories of spending an evening in Darfo Boario Terme, with an Italian friend we were staying with, meeting up with a British friend, a Deaf British Sign Language user (and BSL teacher and much else), and an Italian Sign Language teacher. It was fascinating comparing the sign languages. We were also using an EU supported app, or website, I can’t remember which, but it was multilingual in Sign Languages. A much appreciated aid to communicating across nationalities, and appreciating our diversity and the things we have in common.

@EU_Commission You say "our strength lies in our diversity" just after Josep Borrell was quoted saying that migration could lead to the dissolution of the Union: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/22/migration-eu-diplomat-josep-borrell-ukraine-china
