I have not used a microblogging site for years, but I rediscovered it with Mastodon, which actually does have good content and isn’t so full of chatter that the good content gets overwhelmed. It helps that you can subscribe to hashtags. I follow #Archaeology and get amazing and fascinating links. I rarely post, but I scroll.
So, the Journées du Patrimoine are this week-end ( https://journeesdupatrimoine.culture.gouv.fr/ ) and it's been a few years now that they are the "Journées Européennes du Patrimoine" so the hastag is #JEP2023 . I checked and in English they are the European Heritage Days but the hashtag EHD2023 does not exist.
What's the hashtag ?
Or is it that despite the "European" in the name in fact only the French take part ? (I don't mind tooting in French) @archaeodons#archaeology
This time for #FindsFriday repair & reuse in the #latene Period: Shattered sherds were reused as #spindlewhorls, broken pots repaired with little holes to fix it. Good as new!
☀️ The Pont du Gard is the highest known aqueduct bridge in the Roman world. It was designed to carry water from Uzès to the city of Nîmes over the Gardon river. Built in the 1st century AD, the top of the bridge rises 49 m above the river. 📸 Own photos.
During the #EAA2023 in Belfast we gave a workshop on Agent-Based Modeling for Archaeologists as part of an @EUErasmusPlus project. Saxion works with Leiden University, Aarhus University and Landward Research on this.
I really joined seeing the interested participants working diligently through our tutorials, as well as some interesting discussions on #ABM
We're always happy when material from an excavation of ours becomes part of a research project!
Thank you #JasminÖzyurt from the #ERC Project #HistoGenes at #ÖAW for the fantastic presentation about the #awar#burialsite of #Achau
The annual conference for the European Association of Archaeology (EAA) is happening in #Belfast this week.
Follow #EAA2023, #EAABelfast or similar iterations to read interesting posts and find great new accounts to follow. #Archaeology @archaeodons
Too good not to share: I just came across this photo of a wooden floor of a neolithic house. Unearthed in Alleshausen-Grundwiesen, a wetland settlement at the western rim of the Federsee marshlands, 3020-2700BC

#Stonehenge: "used to peddle myths about the past while conserving power and control today – academic power, political power, power over access, an essential celebrity and politician photo opportunity, a place that one has to be associated with."
Archaeologists: do you know of an antiquities looting/trafficking case that belongs in the Trafficking Culture Encyclopedia? A case from your region that should be up with the other 150+ cases on the site? Let me know! The site skews heavily toward Latin America because I skew toward Latin America. The Trafficking Culture site is well used by scholars, students, and others: I want good case study representation on there. See: https://traffickingculture.org/encyclopedia/case-studies/all/
