Heute findet die Lange Nacht der Museen statt. In St. Pölten gibt es um 21h im #Stadtmuseum #StPölten auch einen Vortrag der #Stadtarchäologie über die archäologischen Tätigkeiten im vergangenen Jahr. Dabei wird auch unsere #Ausgrabung im Bischofsgarten vorgestellt.

We are currently excavating the remnants of a #cloister originally founded in the 8th century. So for this #FindsFriday, just out of the ground a marble „chalice“ block capital with traces of red paint dating to around 1200 AD

Is it possible to identify #Tobacco use from human remains?

Our colleague #SheridanStrang is currently investigating this question with five tooth samples from the #Napoleonic #battlefield of #Deutsch-Wagram
The project is funded by the British Association for Biological #anthropogy and #Osteoarchaeology #BABAO and takes place in cooperation with the #viennabiocenter of the @univienna and the research group #TobaccoAndHealth of #UniversityOfLeicester

This time we have some beautiful pieces of #celtic #armrings made out of glass for #FindsFriday.
They date to the middle #LaTène period and show us the artistry and craftmanship of the third century BC.
The coloring, discoloration and clouding of the glass armrings were achieved with special additives such as iron, copper, cobalt, manganese, antimony, lead and tin and the furnace atmosphere.

This time for #FindsFriday repair & reuse in the #latene Period: Shattered sherds were reused as #spindlewhorls, broken pots repaired with little holes to fix it. Good as new!
