I got my car (2020 Ford Fusion Hybrid SE) new 3 years ago at $25k for a 6 year loan @ 0% interest for entirety of loan, $350 a month payment. I’m about halfway paid off and have about $12.5k left on it. What should I do? I just get sick of paying $350 a month.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Linux and FOSS. I have been using and installing distros on my own since I was 12. Now that I’m working in tech-related positions, after the Reddit migration happened, etc. I recovered my interest in all the Linux environment. I use Ubuntu as my main operating system in my Desktop, but I always end...
I’ve been using Linux for so long that it’s hard for me to give an approximation of what a new user might find challenging
The average person would fail on step 0 of Installing the OS. In fact 90% of the problem could be attributed to Linux distros not coming preinstalled on PCs sitting in big box stores.
All of Linux's success stories for the average user (Android, Steam Deck, Chrome book) have one thing in common. They are low cost, simple, purpose built for very specific tasks with a bunch of exclusive games/software that people want to use. We need to start looking at PCs almost like they are highly moddable game consoles. It should come with the expectation that most users don't want to leave the comfort of the walled garden.
Sometimes I can tell when my current DM fudges a roll to miss an attack or reduce damage. He has a tell in the specific way he pauses and breathes before announcing the roll, then tries to hurry to the next turn, which only seems to happen when someone is in a life-or-death scenario, but “luckily” survives....
As a player, I make a point of telling my GMs that I dislike fudged rolls and I’d rather roll a new character than claim a false victory.
As a GM, I will always at session 0 tell my players that I don’t fudge rolls and often prefer to make my GM rolls out in the open whenever there’s a chance they could kill someone or end an encounter. My attitude is that when the players can see my rolls and I tell them in advance “if this is higher than X it’ll hit so-and-so”, we’re all on the same side as we watch the roll play out.
IMO it’s not the job of the GM to tilt the game system itself towards the players, but rather to balance encounters and challenges to be beatable, and then see what happens right alongside the players.
To answer your question, tell him if it affects your experience of the game. Don’t let it ruin your fun in silence, no GM wants players to do that.
i thought this was pretty weird too when i found out about it. i’m not entirely sure why it’s done this way but i think it has to do with conventions on where to start indexing. most programming languages start their indexing at 0 while much of the time in math the indexing starts at 1, so i=0 to n-1 becomes i=1 to n.
My abstract math professor showed us that sometimes it’s useful to count natural numbers from 1 instead of 0, like in one problem we did concerning the relation Q on A = N × N defined by (m,n)Q(p,q) iff m/n = p/q. I don’t hate counting natural numbers from 1 anymore because of how commonly this sort of thing comes up in non-computer math contexts.
There’s nothing special about a generic for loop (at least in C-like languages). There’s no reason you couldn’t do something like for (i = 0; true; i++) to make it infinite. Some languages even support an infinite list generator syntax like for i in [0…] (e.g. it lazily generates 0, then 1, then 2, etc. on each iteration) so you can use a for-each style loop to iterate infinitely.
Now, whether or not you should do such things is another question entirely. I won’t pretend there aren’t any instances where it’s useful, but most of the time you’re better off with a different structure.
Short answer: Imagine that the integer used in the for loop is a float instead.
Longer, a bit more precise answer: An integer can only have discrete values (i.e. -1, 0, 1, 2, …, 69, … etc.)
A real number (~float with infinite precision) can have an infinite amount of values between two discrete values.
An integral is, to put it simpy, a sum of all the results of taking those infinite values between two discrete values (an interval) and feeding them to the given function.
It’s a for loop over an infinite set of real numbers rather than over a finite set of integers => a non-discrete for loop
honestly - if you just copy/use the three column design and color scheme from Reeder this would be damn perfect. I find the 3 column design (like mail, reeder, messages (ok thats only 2 but you get the idea) to be perfect on the bigger Mac screens.
Honestly I genuinely think that 2017 might be the best year of gaming, ever. Breath of the wild, nier automata, mario odyssey, fortnite, cuphead, horizon zero dawn, hellblade: senua’s sacrifice, destiny 2, xenoblade chronicles 2, prey, sonic mania, injustice 2, divinity original sin 2, nioh, splatoon 2, hollow knight, middle earth: shadow of war, night in the woods, pubg, pyre, yakuzas 0 and kiwami, even tekken 7’s console release and persona 5’s western release if you want to count those. And that’s not mentioning the smaller indie games that were acclaimed within their circles like Absolver or the expansions for games that were critically acclaimed like Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire or Final Fantasy: Stormblood. Like, '98 is legendary for a reason but I think that as far as just, number of incredible games released we’ve never seen a year like 2017.
As a Canadian, 50 is kill me right now cause fuck that, 40 would be constant cold showers to stay cool, 30 is uncomfortable and needs occasional cold showers, 20 is perfect summer weather, 10 is perfect spring weather and 0 is a nice winter day.
Can’t stand the heat, I’ll take -30C over +30C any day. Can always put on more layers if you’re cold, there’s only so much you can take off when you’re hot though.
Honestly JS seams saner then python, it’s wierd but rather sane. The only really bad parts of JS are the type coercing == and =! operators which are very broken
For example “” == 0 and 0 == “0” are both true, but “0” == “” is false.
Kind of a “self-flex”, but one of the “#1 container” I mentioned in the OP, cmatrix (should have said image, I was way too sleepy when I posted this, but eh) uses less than 1% of the CPU and exactly 486kb of RAM (and that is on a RPI 4), so yep… pretty sure any PC (and I -REALLY meant to say ANY) will have 0 issues running those tiny, “waste of resources” apps. :^)
If China sent 3k troops to Cuba I wouldn’t care. 83k would be alarming because a sudden change from 0 presence to a demographic group would make me worry China was invading Cuba.
83k is a lot more than 3k. But you knew what when you started arguing in bad faith.
The only people upset about this are those that want Putin to win.
MapReduce is term pertaining to a software data retrieval architecture/process (also known as divide-and-conquer). The simple version is that instead of asking one super big database that knows “everything” you ask multiple smaller databases the same question i.e. “what all posts do you have from [email protected]?” (this is “mapping” a query to mutliple sources) and each database returns 0 or more results, then the query interface joins the results together (“reduce”) to a single response. This is common in “big data” because you can more efficiently optimize the query by parallelizing it across many machines/workers/nodes. There are additional optimizations that can be implemented such as caching common queries or data-sharding (items a-f on node 1, items g - k on node 2…).
I don’t think Nostr protocol is immune to the development of big centralized popular instances. Especially if something like Threads integrates and becomes the “default” client with millions of users over night. Users, in general, will always gravitate towards content and community. But, I think Nostr has a slight edge over ActivityPub in handling that problem by the user having no direct dependence on any one particular host.
I’ll have to read more into the Nostr protocol specifically as it pertains to privacy, tracking and content injection (ads).
I’m by no means an authority on ActivityPub nor Nostr, I apologize if that may have been surmised. I too am just chatting.
Depends on where you are! In some places it is more common to say that 0 is natural and in other’s not. Some argue it’s useful to have it N, some, say that it makes more historical and logical sense for 0 not to be in N and use N_0 when including it. It’s not a settled issue, it’s a matter of perspective.

Do y'all pretend not to notice when the DM fudges something to keep your character alive?
Sometimes I can tell when my current DM fudges a roll to miss an attack or reduce damage.
