half_built_pyramids, in Israeli hostages killed in Gaza were holding white flag, official says

“they have a stick with a white cloth on it. The soldier feels threatened”

Linkerbaan, in Protesters Shut Down Los Angeles Highway to Demand Ceasefire in Gaza

Great initiative.

The peaceful protests are over.

Next phase is nonviolent disruption. Block infrastructure.

Aquilae, in ‘We Cannot Win’ Says Top Russian Commander
@Aquilae@hexbear.net avatar

Browsing through top posts, and damn this didn’t age very well lol

brain_in_a_box,

And none of the libs have learned a thing. They’re busy gushing over the claim that 90 percent of Russia’s army has been destroyed, and all the previous claims of imminent victory have been memory holed.

brain_in_a_box, in U.S. Empire Humiliated at the UN: The World Stands with Palestine!

It’s becoming increasingly obvious everyday that the dominance of the USA empire will have to crumble before the world can start improving.

eluvatar, in U.S. Empire Humiliated at the UN: The World Stands with Palestine!

Since when is the US an empire?

Bay_of_Piggies,

Since they had a base in every corner of the globe with multiple outpost territories and a neo-colonial relationship with much of the developing world.

brain_in_a_box,

Realistically it has for most of its history, but it’s real zenith was the post WW2 period.

Tosti, in US Troops are Occupying Syria's Oil Fields. Congress Refuses to Withdraw Them
@Tosti@feddit.nl avatar

Yes, the Kurds are pumping up the oil and using it to fund their military machine. Hence the strained relationship with Turkey… They really dislike Kurds.

The US denies oil revenue to a crazy dictator selling it to fund his crazy antics and prevents Russian proxies from capturing the fields to fund their crazy antics all with minimal troops.

It’s not as if the alternative would be that the oil revenue is used to buy happyness, health and prosperity for the Syrian people.

PanArab,

Oil stealing thieves

NoiseColor, in Ukraine needs new troops so badly it is taking people's passports and tried to recruit a mentally disabled man

… allegedly… at least one case…

What a piece of news, definitely absolute proof of how the war is going!

knfrmity, in IOC boss says individual athletes cannot be punished for acts of their governments, defending move to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete as neutrals

I wonder why USian athletes are still allowed to compete under their nation’s flag, seeing as their government will invade or meddle with whoever it damn well likes.

TexMexBazooka,

Because we’re useful as Allies.

knfrmity,

Allies the way that the mob protection racket is allied with local business owners.

knotthatone, in IOC boss says individual athletes cannot be punished for acts of their governments, defending move to allow Russians and Belarusians to compete as neutrals

I agree with this in principle, but the way they were allowed to compete as the “Russian Olympic Committee” was bullshit. You can’t have a team called “totally not Russia (wink)” and expect that to be a meaningful punishment for the nations leaders

I think the athletes should only be able to compete as citizens of the world with no reference or acknowledgement of the banned country allowed.

realharo,

That will never work as long as they’re the only country in that situation. They would need to be mixed with athletes from other unrelated countries for this to make sense.

PrinceWith999Enemies,

The point isn’t to disguise them. The point is to call attention to their country’s misdeeds by refusing them the honor of flying their colors. Perhaps the individual athletes should still win medals, but the IOC wouldn’t assign the credit to Russia, who would not be eligible for them.

graymess, in Protesters Shut Down Los Angeles Highway to Demand Ceasefire in Gaza

Please, someone tell me how the fuck these protests get organized? I’ve been scouring IG for upcoming demonstrations in LA and nobody’s registering their actions on Shut It Down For Palestine. For months I’ve tried to get involved and it feels impossible for any full time worker to help take action for Palestine. Best case scenario is I find out about an event a few hours beforehand when I’m already in the office and it’s too late for me to be there.

pineapplelover,

Xitter probably. Easy to retweet and get the word out, big community, lots of political guys

Doubledee, in Ukraine needs new troops so badly it is taking people's passports and tried to recruit a mentally disabled man
@Doubledee@hexbear.net avatar

Ah, but have you tankies considered how cheap it is to send mentally disabled Eastern Europeans to die and how much value The West™ is getting out of this?

This is clearly a sign of good things just around the corner.

Pons_Aelius, in U.S. Empire Humiliated at the UN: The World Stands with Palestine!

But even with this resolution passed, the UN does not have the ability to enforce their decision.

So the countries that voted either way knew it was an empty gesture that would not change the situation on the ground.

Those that voted against the USA got to appear righteous without having to actually do anything.

Those that voted with the USA reaffirmed their loyalty to the USA without having to actually do anything.

Every UN delegate got paid their wages and got to sleep safely after the vote while achieving nothing.

The USA was not humiliated, it was just another day of improv theatre at the UN.

vivadanang, in Congress approves bill barring any president from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO

fuck we might succeed and get trump back, quick put up the child safeties!

jaybone, in Congress approves bill barring any president from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO

And if Trump wants, he asks his stacked SCOTUS to declare it unconstitutional, and withdraws from NATO. Zzz

CanadaPlus,

Yeah, this is a hurdle, but that’s all. Every law ever made can be unmade.

reverendsteveii,

This bill violates the president’s first amendment right to free speech because forcing him to do it is tantamount to forcing him to say he’s okay with doing it.
