YES.

adj16, in To care is to share

Ask me how I knew this was drawn by a male artist…

kurwa,

Because their name is Jim Benton?

NewNewAccount,

Believe it or not, there’s an even more obvious clue.

Soulg,

Girls just pretend boobs don’t exist.

Steeve,

The total fuckin babe on the right?

Solarius,

Women don’t have breasts or figures. They should all be drawn like flat rectangles. But if a pretty lady draws the booby then it’s actually empowering and based 😎

adj16, (edited )

So much knee-jerk defensiveness. Y’all can disagree with me if you like, but to me it very much has the energy of people digging their heels in against the BLM message at first before later coming around - not from a place of bigotry, but rather not yet fully understanding the situation. I hope that eventually the people in this thread will understand that the ever-present over-sexualization of women is something that needs to be addressed, even in minor cases like this. Call me over-sensitive, call me a white knight, but just turn this point over in your mind a few times.

And perhaps look to the litany of posts in this community that represent women without sexual undertones

Edit: changed “sub” to “community” - old habits die hard

Solarius,

If the lady witch had huge anime milkers hanging out of her shirt and fat thighs with a tiny skirt I’d be inclined to agree but this is such a nonoffensive drawing I genuinely can’t see anything wrong with it. I personally know women who make art and depict their women characters way worse than this.

Genuinely the real problem is people having an issue with things that shouldn’t be sexual at all. Everybody has breasts, some just have larger ones than others, and to act like that’s not real is like some weird titty erasure. Just because you personally find breasts overtly sexual doesn’t mean someone else does.

People express themselves in many different ways and for some people they enjoy feeling comfortable in their own body. Having representation not just for different body types but also different portrayals of those body types is important, as long as it’s realistic. You wouldn’t start a stink over a woman choosing to wear a revealing top or form fitting dress, neither would you mind a man dressing in drag with huge fake breasts.

The problem with oversexualization in general is when it’s unrealistic and stereotypical. I promise if you go to any Halloween party with attendees in the 18-30 range you’ll see actual women dressed like little witches like that right now.

Comparing someone not finding anything wrong with little boobies on a cartoon hag to people that think black people are inferior is probably the most insane take I’ve ever seen on this website.

Draedron,

Women being drawn with breasts are over sexualized now? Do they all need to be completely flat in your world?

adj16,

Idk if you’re looking to fight or discuss in good faith, but in case it’s the latter, scroll through the posts in this community. There are hundreds of examples of women with normal shapes that aren’t sexualized.

I’m not saying “this artist should be in jail for what he’s done!!!”

But I am saying he added a little more sexuality than is entirely appropriate, and certainly more so than most female artists do.

This is the first time I’ve ever felt the need to say this: Touch Grass.

adj16,

People sure are getting angry at us for raising this point, huh?

NewNewAccount,

Lmao yeah. I hardly care and my comment was 99% a joke. People do seem pretty upset.

Steeve,

None of the replies are even slightly angry or aggressive lol

adj16,

I don’t know that I’d agree with that exactly - defensiveness is a shade of anger in my mind. But largely I was referencing the high number of downvotes for all of our comments, especially newnewaccount’s innocuous reply to mine. We seem to have struck a nerve

Steeve,

There’s no defensiveness here either… Your comment was a boring “omg men r pervs” joke, newnewaccount’s comment was just the exact same joke, but worse. I’m surprised downvotes surprise you this much.

adj16,

Well yes, I assumed I didn’t need to state it was before I noticed that part.

Metal_Zealot,
@Metal_Zealot@lemmy.ml avatar

You’re right, women don’t draw tits AT ALL, EVER, NOT ONCE

Dagnet,

Yeah, I get your /s

Just finished reading a manga about loving boobs (no, seriously) and the author apparently is a woman

adj16, (edited )

I don’t know why men get so defensive about this. Men over-sexualize women all the time, it’s not like I’m making this up. Just go through the posts on this community and there will be plenty where you know immediately that it was a man who drew it

Edit: changed “sub” to “community” - old habits die hard

kurwa,

You know you’re just assuming everyone in the comments are men right? I feel like that’s pretty shallow. Also seriously you’re the one being weird here about a drawing. Especially one that has pretty diverse body types in it too.

adj16,

I could be wrong, but I have a pretty strong feeling that the grand majority of people disagreeing with me are men, based on the mentality being displayed. I am of course open to being proven wrong by any women in this thread.

surewhynotlem,

Because you’re pre judging. Lesbians also appreciate giant boobs.

DragonTypeWyvern,

Even “straight” women love boobs. There is actual science on the matter.

ech,

Seriously, right? When will nose-erasure end?!

@thegiddystitcher@lemm.ee avatar

You’re getting a fair few downvotes in this thread, but you’re not wrong.

adj16,

Thank you. I’m just trying to get people thinking about it so that there’s a little less ire each time they’re approached with this topic - and (hopefully) eventually see things from my side

Crul, in Let's gooooo
Dagwood222, in Let's gooooo

Recently learned this. Back in the day, women brewers would make beer in big cauldrons at the market place, wear big pointy hats so the customers could spot them easily, and had cats to chase away the mice that ate the raw materials. When monasteries started brewing beer they suddenly discovered that the women who were their competition were also WITCHES!!!

Aurora_TheFirstLight,

I wonder if that’s actually true, but I don’t want to know it isn’t

rtxn, (edited )

Sounds about right for every locally dominant organized religion.

(edit) the original comment, I mean. Not the reply.

UnrepententProcrastinator,

If it plays into your biases then it’s probably true.

edgemaster72,

Just the confirmation I was looking for.

Sunfoil,

A cute just-so story, but i’d bet it’s more complicated than that.

SlopppyEngineer,

A bit searching confirms this. Turns out brewing beer was considered women’s work originally, something done between taking care of the kids and making dinner.

Women were in general accused of being a witch because they did most of the child care, sick care and other jobs concerning people. If somebody died, and lots of people died of disease, bad hygiene and so on, they sometime blamed the nanny or nurse and called her a witch that cursed them. Men usually worked with inanimate things or animals where chances of being called a witch were much lower.

unconsciousvoidling,

History of the world condensed in one statement.

eestileib,

“Alewife” was the term for a female brewer, a common enough term that there’s still a subway stop in metro Boston named Alewife.

SwingingTheLamp,

If I had to guess, I’d say that the name in Boston comes from the fish, given the area’s maritime heritage. But the name of the fish probably came from their resemblance to the brewing ale-wives.

eestileib,

Did not know that, thanks.

Now do Braintree. 😄

SwingingTheLamp,

If only I knew! 😀 I’m from Wisconsin, and know about alewives (the fish) because they’re invasive in the Great Lakes, where they die off seasonally and wash ashore in large, stinky masses.

Carlo,

Curious as to what your source for this is. A quick search turned up this article, which is prefaced by a lengthy editor’s note regarding its veracity. The article as it now exists links to this article as the source of the claim

men accused female brewers of being witches.

This “source” doesn’t even make that argument at all.

eestileib,

I doubt you’d be boiling the wort at a marketplace, even for small beer you’re looking at a week or more of ferment.

Selling it from a tun at the market, having a characteristic dress (and probably call), is very consistent with European retail traditions. “Fishwives” were famous for their shrill, sharp calls for example.

The modern equivalent I guess is the ice cream truck; they pretty much all have the same livery and play the same recorded organ tunes. Just imagine that approach for every product category.

pimento64, in Relentless consolidation of power at the top has always been a problem.

That’s a really bad read of Milton, which is unfortunate because Satan, being barely in the actual Bible at all, is effectively a Milton character. In Paradise Lost, Lucifer wages a war against God for the unfairness of God making himself king of heaven and earth, but then upon his defeat he sets himself up as the absolute king of Hell. He loathes humanity because he sees himself as a superior being who should rule them by right, but also demands equal footing with the omnipotent being who created him. It’s summed up in the fact that one of his primary stated goals is to try to show the hypocrisy of God, because he actually demonstrates massively hypocritical behavior at almost every conceivable opportunity. Lucifer wasn’t the first to demand equality, he was the first to demand social classes.

kofe,

Eh…I read it as Satan being the one that wanted Adam and Eve to have knowledge equal to God.

Now you get to eat all the pickles

kromem, in The Opener of the Jar

The most OP trick to opening a jar is to wrap a rubber band around the lid and then use that to massively increase your leverage.

If it’s really stuck, add a rubber band around the jar for the counter-twist too.

You’ll never go back to any of the other methods, I promise.

MargotRobbie, in The Opener of the Jar
@MargotRobbie@lemmy.world avatar

Easy trick to open a jar if you don’t have a Great Old One around: stick the end of a metal spoon handle between the metal lid and glass and pry (lightly! Don’t break the glass!) like a lever around the lid to loosen it, and it should be easy to twist off afterwards.

DragonTypeWyvern,

Sounds complicated.

Surely it’s easier to take HGH and increase your grip strength three fold over a decade of daily work outs and dieting?

LeafOnTheWind,

Before that (to avoid potential damage) try tapping the lid of the jar against the counter. This can help loosen the vacuum holding the lid on.
