Any #vinyl folks go out for BF Record Store Day this morning? If so, how did it go and what did you pick up? Only a couple of things that caught my eye on the list this time, so I think I'm going to wait them out and see if the prices go down.
@tonymasiello@vinylrecords I wanted the Jazz Dispensary album but I’m traveling from VT (my folks) to Miami today, so I will likely have to pay over face unless I can find an leftover online tomorrow at plaidroom or wherever. I am also interested in the Garcia/Grisman joint.
When I used to travel to the USA quite a lot for work (and used extra days to shop for #vinylrecords) I found that Portland, Oregan was one of the best places (with a well organised shops - map with specialisms of the shops) for picking up great records.....
Portland is an excellent vinyl-shopping town. I visited a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. Barclelona might be my favorite vinyl-shopping town, I overdid it on a visit there a few years ago. Wah Wah Records is tremendous.
#NowPlaying Grant Green - Alive! (Blue Note, 1970). Recorded live at the Cliché Lounge, Newark, NJ on 8/15/1970. Jazz-funk (or is it funky jazz?) was my gateway from hip-hop to jazz. The closing track Down Here On The Ground is instantly recognizable from the sample on A Tribe Called Quest - Vibes and Stuff. Anything with Idris Muhammad on drums is worth listening to. #jazz#funk#hiphop#GrantGreen@vinylrecords
@BEK97@WilliamRobert@vinylrecords I haven’t delved too deep, but Turn This Motha Out was worth it for the Tasty Cakes alone (the whole thing was solid tho)
@BEK97@vinylrecords Maiden Voyage is a bonus track? Insane. It's one of the best things I've heard in my life. #Idris is a monster on this record--kicks the band into another realm.
#NowPlaying - revisiting early santana for the first time in eons at the behest of a (drummer) pal who suggested trying to background carlos & focus on the next-level collectivity of this specific group of players. and, like, shit yeah! it's probably just stating the obvious to say that santana were an incredible band, but it made them feel fresh to me. @vinylrecords
And don't forget, all my sets wind up on SoundCloud, so there's always something to tune into any time, any day ;-) https://soundcloud.com/markmetzlive
Pearl Jam Vs. New Remaster. Issued in 2LP at 45rpm. So different to the 1LP clear that also came out. Differently Cut / mastered and pressed.
Another Sticker Saved as well @TheVinylApe #vinyl@vinylrecords#NowPlaying
They've been annoying more yesterday and today by constantly trying to merge it despite being different runouts and pressed in different places 11 years apart
#NowPIaying one of my most prized physical media, Medeski Martin & Wood - Reduxolarians LP, from Radiolarians: The Evolutionary Set (Indirecto, 2009). Captures the raw essence of a mature MMW at the peak of their powers. Illustrations by zoologist, naturalist, artist, and early evolutionist Ernst Haeckel (The Radiolarian Atlas, 1862). #mmw#jazz#groove@vinylrecords
So I know my #vinyl lovers are strong here. So I need to know. What’s the best & fastest way of moving a large amount of vinyl. All high quality. A large amount still sealed. #Rock, #hiphop, 50s and 60s lounge, and what looks like a pretty legendary #Beatles collection. It’s basically a school/rent money party, and the right price is invited. Maybe our first #mastodon#musicparty?
#NowPlaying - starting to understand the whole "back to mono" thing. these 1948/1949 charlie parker radio recordings by boris rose (plus a few audience tapes) feel so much more present/vivid on this suitcase turntable than they do on my stereo. perhaps psychosomatic, but sounding incredible on this very rainy sunday. #jazz#bootleg@vinylrecords
Another album that brings me back to the beginning of college. I grew up on classic rock and jazz (which I still love) so it wasn’t until my first year in the dorms that my music world quickly expanded. This is another album in that list that I discovered “late” (like 2005 late!).
@Champagne@vinylrecords Yes! It’s a carbon fiber brush with a connection to the ground post - I can’t tell you definitively if it helps or not but it was cheap and couldn’t hurt…now that we’re going into winter the weather is dry so there’s a lot more static. I’ll have to play some with and some without and see how much of a difference it makes.
@andrew@vinylrecords definitely recommend picking up OKNOTOK if you see it; the extra tracks are utterly marvellous, and the remaster is shockingly clear as someone who’s been listening since about a week before release.
Green Day - Dookie. I saw the new cash grab Boxsets out recently and found out they weren't cut by the same guy that did this one and the reviews this got were amazing.
Absolutely covered in paper dust so the paper sleeve has gone in the bin and replaced by nice Spincare sleeve.
