What is your favorite ssh client for Windows?

skryking,
@skryking@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry the ssh client in ubuntu under wsl2.

eselet,
@eselet@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry the built in openssh one. No need to install anything!

bielsubob,
@bielsubob@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry PuTTY

@jerry SecureCRT. This is mainly because I do a lot of network stuff, so its nice to have a client with all the knobs for weird behaviors. For dev work I typically just use the terminal in VScode or Jetbrains.

@ciphermonger@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry This week? Termius. But I've also messed around with mremote-ng and MobaXterm. And of course it's hard to beat good old PuTTY.

drsbaitso,
@drsbaitso@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry For quick tasks, PowerShell's built-in ssh client. For longer or regular remote control, I like RoyalTS. https://royalapps.com/ts/win/features

@GuillaumeRossolini@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry whichever Linux distribution I feel confortable with under WSL

pauliehedron,
@pauliehedron@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry SuperPutty front end with Putty. Being able to share sessions with others easily is handy.

whereisthespai,
@whereisthespai@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry either PuTTY or ssh, depending on if I also have need of bash and whatnot. (I love how Microsoft made Linux on the desktop practical)

eingfoan,
@eingfoan@infosec.exchange avatar
ComfortN01se,
@ComfortN01se@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry These days I use powershell for home stuff. Work has licenses for SecureCRT which is nice, but I don't need the bells and whistles outside of my job.

erickolb,
@erickolb@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry In older versions of Windows, I'd use PuTTY. In recent years? Windows Subsystem for Linux is a must. Then you can just use the default OpenSSH client in your distro of choice.

HubCityLocal,
@HubCityLocal@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry PuTTY
Does what it says on the tin.

versed_perception,
@versed_perception@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Keepass with SSO calling Putty...

siliconshecky,
@siliconshecky@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Putty

Sempf,
@Sempf@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Terminal.

jjbaumgartner,
@jjbaumgartner@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Built-in OpenSSH w/ Windows Terminal.

Second place for me is RoyalTS, since I use it for everything else.

AMS,
@AMS@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry openssh in wsl2.. except when something around wsl crashes and vmmem pegs the CPU until I reboot.

kensims,
@kensims@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry I rarely need to use an ssh client anymore, but when I do, I use PuTTY.

Wesche,
@Wesche@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry Windows Terminal

The_Asshat,
@The_Asshat@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry the built in openSSH client!

JPatONeil,

@jerry ssh under git-bash/cygwin (at least when wsl2 is not there)

jahanson,
@jahanson@infosec.exchange avatar

@jerry https://termius.com/free-ssh-client-for-windows but if not that then ssh, it’s available on windows win-get or WSL SSH. I absolutely abhor PuTTY 🚫
