Ladies, I have a horny man-god for you! Wait, "horned", a horned man-God - Gelas, from Sicily! Phew, that could have got awkward! (Ok @AimeeMaroux I know you can still do something inappropriate with Gelas!) This Æ Tetras harks all the way back to 420 - 405 BC, it amazes me that it is possible to hold something so old in your hands! More at: https://coinofnote.com/gela-ae-tetras-420-405-bc/

Original coin has: "Bull right, olive branch above, three pellets (mark of value = 1/4 litra) in exergue". On mine, basically only the bull is visible.

@CoinOfNote @AimeeMaroux Great coin, but I'll see your tetras and raise you a didrachm. From Neapolis, in Campania. With a winged Nike placing a wreath on the man-headed bull, Achelous, on the reverse, and a bust of the nymph Parthenope, daughter of Achelous and the muse Terpsichore, on the front. Struck between 330 and 275 BCE. 😊

@AimeeMaroux @CoinOfNote Apologies for the delay in replying. Have been preoccupied irl!

Two types of ass to offer..

One of a drunken Silenus, reclining on an ass (Mende, Macedonia, tetrobol, 424 to 358 BCE)

The other is a denarius of Julia Domna, with a reverse showing a cheeky Venus (193 to 211 CE)

A silver denarius shown against a black background, on obverse the bust of Julia Domna, wife of Septimius Severus (with great braided hair style), on the reverse, Venus standing, leaning against column and holding an apple and palm frond, seen from the back and naked to below waist, baring cheeks!

@w7voa Huh. I didn't realize that the Mexico's military was in charge of the Mexican government. Or does Pence plan to ignore the Mexican government and pick a general to "partner with"?

All onboard a night train! 🚆

Rail is one of the most sustainable means of transport we have, but cross-border trips account for just 7% of the kilometres travelled by train.

This is why we are supporting 10 pilot projects to create new international train connections in the EU.

They will help us improve the quality of service and make them a viable option for more people.

@EU_Commission Where do I find information about the progress of these pilot projects? As the announcement dates from Jan 31, 2023, some progress should have been made.

It's September 15th! That means it's the official start of the Spooky Season 🦇 I'm celebrating day one by:

  1. Starting to read "The Only Good Indians" by Stephen Graham Jones. It's got tons of ghost deer, so I'm pumped!

  2. Watching "The Twilight Zone" reboot. The first story was creepy and interesting!

  3. Playing "Signalis". It had me hooked after I picked up a copy of "The King in Yellow" in-game

This evening, we watched "Creep":

  • A truly disturbing killer 👍👍
  • The story is presented as a found footage montage 👍

This has been on my watchlist for years and I'm glad we finally watched it! One of the most genuinely freaky movies I've watched this year. If you're looking for interesting characters, tasteful jump scares, and lingering psychic damage, this is a must watch!

I finished my last novel for this spooky season this morning. Fittingly, it was "I'm Thinking of Ending Things":

    • No monsters to be found in this one 😐
    • The story kept me guessing for a long time 👍👍

The only reason this doesn't immediately beat "Red X" and "The Between" for the best novel this season is because I guessed the ending a little early. Still, a thrilling and interesting read!

@LovesTha @mansr the lots squeeze together in the front on this part of street. Some mailboxes are on opposite sides of a driveway, and others are ~120ish meters apart. Was trying to give a rough average.

Where my parents live, the mailboxes are all together in a little cul-de-sac and so the post office truck just has one stop in that part of the neighborhood. As I understand it, all the new neighborhoods have to do that with their mailboxes now - the USPS seems to want to phase out mailboxes at each house to make delivery faster and more efficient.

@Gargron "was"? I like to believe it still is for many of us - particular people who see generative AI for what it is. Who invests in this global asset scraping endeavor? Who profits from it? No one that I want any business with. What are they doing with their ill-gotten gains - to improve society, the planet? Fairly sure we know the answer to be below zero and far worse than nothing.
