Sickos, in International Strange Music Day: 7 niche genres you've probably never heard of
@Sickos@hexbear.net avatar

Every Noise At Once is my favorite genre discovery tool

rwtwm,

That seems like a site I could lose a lot of time to!

Very surprised by two of the entries on the list, as they are hardly new (although super niche).

LoraxEleven, in Metallica - Inamorata

I was a diehard Metallica fan up until The Black Album. Hate to admit it but, the video is better than the music. It’s still good. Just… they lost something when they gained fame… everything changes and you can’t keep young anger forever. Damn good video though. Thanks for posting it up. I didn’t even realize they’d released another album.

This is my favorite from their newest album. Shame they haven’t played it live yet.

It’s my tied favourite, along with Lux Æterna. I hope you get to hear them play it live. It would bring the house down!

TIN, in Portishead - Wandering Star

All killer, no filler. Love this album.

moody, in Portishead - Wandering Star

I used to have this album playing on a loop back in the day.

vzq,

This song is like a Time Machine to the mid nineties for me.

Downcount, in Portishead - Wandering Star

This track is on autoplay in my head the moment I read its title.

king_dead, in Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North of Richmond

I thought lemmy would be free of scumbags like him. Guess not. These phony working class pricks are the worst

Flaky, in What I've Done - Linkin Park
@Flaky@iusearchlinux.fyi avatar

Minutes to Midnight is an underrated album, tbh. Might just be my nostalgia, but it finishes a pretty damn solid three-album streak of good albums from Linkin Park.

shuzuko,

Agreed, though I also have to say that if you haven’t listened to A Thousand Suns recently, try going back to it without listening to earlier LP first. It’s a departure from their first three albums in many ways, but honestly, when taken as a cohesive front-to-back concept album, I think it’s actually their strongest work.

LP just hits hard no matter what, though. Even though I may not like all their later stuff as much, they were always true to themselves and that comes through. I miss Chester :'(

C4d,

true to themselves

Looking at the lyrics in hindsight, you can see how that was all too true.

squiblet, in Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North of Richmond

Just looking at this guy’s shitty beard upsets me.

some_guy, in Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North of Richmond

What’s unfortunate is that he’s a great songwriter and has a fantastic voice. Then he goes and uses those gifts to write a song signaling to the most wretched among us.

Also, this is blowing up because far-right agitators like Matt Walsh and co. timed a coordinated promotion. The only part that’s “true” is that everything sucks. The real reasons aren’t in the song.

Yup, it’s so obviously astroturfed it’s not even funny

DigitalTraveler42, in Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North of Richmond

Oh yay, the guy being astroturfed and loved by mask off fascists like Matt Walsh.

This shit is garbage

TanakaAsuka, in Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North of Richmond

This astro turfed guy again? Yikes

Ram_The_Manparts, in Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North of Richmond
@Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net avatar

Also, the song is mediocre at best.

purahna, in Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North of Richmond

Runningwild85, in Oliver Anthony - Rich Men North of Richmond

This song hits on so many levels.

Only if you sincerely think that punching down at overweight Americans eating Debbie Cakes is an accurate criticism of anything worthwhile.

Try listening to Sturgil Simpson Turtles all the Way Down instead. Or Holy Shit by Father John Misty.

Or if you just want to listen to newer bluegrass and country/western that isn’t astroturfed by wealthy capitalists or white nationalist influencers, you can check out Tyler Childers - the entire album Ballad of Janita and the Dood is a masterpiece. Michael Davies is also an incredible musician and vocalist that “Oliver Anthony” could never be.
