Lmao I replied to a guy that took a meme about Markiplier being the the ideal human very seriously and complaining that men don’t exist to attract women, yadda yadda, saying he shouldn’t take memes so seriously and he got so upset he blocked me.
I expect politics, religion, etc. to get that sort of response. That’s not what I’m talking about.
To give you a concrete example, I recently made a meme about using a condom stored in my wallet. Bunch of comments about how you shouldn’t store condoms in your wallet. Like, that’s technically correct, but it was just a silly meme.
If there isn’t an in-depth analysis of the meme as well as an argumentative debate where we have to choose sides and require moderator intervention in the comments, then what’s the point of making a meme 😎?
minority of people comment, most of users just upvote/downvote/ignore the post and move on. so its “weird” to be in comments, but its also just weird to expect people who have something to say not to be verly invested
Here on lemmy sure and that’s what’s killing it. Someone just shared a Reddit post recently about outfitting their home with Ethernet and there were 140 helpful comments. That type of contribution is what makes it good.
