saigot,

I don’t think the US government would let such a valuable properganda outlet fail like that.

ThePac,

Theaters still exist after COVID.

Hollywood isn’t going anywhere.

OprahsedCreature,

Coming to a theatre near you: Ass

nostalgicgamerz,

Rob Schneider is…a Stapler!

HurlingDurling,

A red stapler?

TheDankHold,

Corporate movies suck but they’re not going anywhere. They’ll just get worse in quality.

SlowNoPoPo,

The only real outcome that might happen is ai movies that will be even worse than what we already get

BruceTwarzen,

Oh I can't wait to see that shitshow to be honest. Some of the latest movies i've seen already seemed to be written by ai.
There are so many "good" movies out there i wouldn't even mind if it all crashed and burn.

SlowNoPoPo,

See, you say that, but then these absolute shitshow movies that you think suck massive dick and should result in hollywood going bust will actually turn into massive blockbusters and the rich hollywood execs will get even more rich than ever and you’ll just be left feeling sad about the state of humanity while the people at the top repeatedly never get punished for their shitty greedy actions for the 100th time in your life

damienallbran,

Hollywood still has plenty to offer, it’s just that the corporations who run everything would rather churn thru established properties than allow original ones to flourish since it’s seen as safer.

Hollywood is that machine. I say let it die while it still has a scrap of dignity, and let smaller and more diverse filmmakers enter the arena.

themeatbridge,

It’s silly to think the studio system will be the casualty. The writers and actors are striking because they are being bled dry for corporate profit. But the entire industry has been structured to protect capitalists, perhaps more than any other industry. Should a studio fail, another will absorb it’s space.

GeneralBoop,

Disney the Hutt is ready and waiting.

Hollywood makes original movies all the time. Viewers just don’t go see them. Hollywood follows the money. If viewers watched original movies more, Hollywood would make them more.

cantstopthesignal,

Because those original movies are ass. They lost a lot of trust with the public and every decision they make now erodes it even further. Also the business model behind theaters is completely hare-brained and a lot of people don’t have that kind of disposable income anymore. It’s as if Musk is in charge.

Norgur,

Nooooooo! I'm desperately waiting for "Recycled IP VII: return of the nonsensical Greenscreen"

yanyuan,

Don’t you worry. ScreenplayGPT and ActorLightAndMagic will supply plenty of that.

GeneralBoop,

hopefully we’re nearing the end of the recycled and rebooted era. There aren’t that many movies coming out lately that I’ve been super excited about, but funny enough it’s the animated movies that have been the ones I’ve enjoyed the most. They’re getting pretty creative with art styles and taking a few more risks compared to live action options.

Apart from Spiderverse 1 and 2, we’ve also seen great animated movies like Mitchells vs the Machines, Nimona, Puss in Boots the last wish, wolf walkers, and the Mario movie was more fun than most live action films I’ve seen lately. I liked Guardians of the Galaxy vol 3, but other than that I can’t say I’ve been really excited or interested in any other live action movie in a while.

StankFlipper,

I’m actually very happy with the A24 releases especially ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ for creativity and unique story telling. The fact that they are killing it in awards and cult favorites gives me hope that maybe we can just say “fuck the big studios” and put talent into smaller budget companies and get good stuff out that people will take chances on.

BruceTwarzen,

First i thought that was an IP Man reference. It would still kinda work

fernandu00,

No more computer graphics intense movies with bad scripts about super heroes? That’d be soo sad 🤣

NotSteve_,

Did I miss something about the strikes or is it just because of how long it’s been going on. Still trying to tweak my subscriptions to keep on top of news…

Odo,

Actors joined the strike this weekend, so a lot of production has ground to a halt now.

NotSteve_,

Oooh that’s great news!

coyootje,

Not really, all of the supporting crew is getting shafted this way. They never made actor (or writer) salaries and are pretty much unemployed at the moment because most of them work on a gig basis… I get that the writers and actors have the right to strike but it sucks for more people than just the studios.

TheDankHold,

Sounds like they should join the strike then. Unless your solution is for everyone to get screwed equally.

ryathal,

Iatse got little more than thoughts and prayers from writers and actors during their almost strike a couple years ago.

TheDankHold,

Sounds like they should join the strike then. Not attending the negotiations means your interests are unrepresented at the table.

Again, are you advocating that these other workers join the fight or that everyone should just step back and let themselves get exploited?

cantstopthesignal,

So you’re saying they are underpaid as well.

worfamerryman,

The writers have been striking and now the actors guild is striking, too.
