I kind of get the outrage. It’s continuing the charade of women and men being competitive at a pro level. If they wanted to add women, they should have made the game mode require a full roster of men and women with matches randomly selecting which team is used. That would probably draw attacks of EA being greedy bastards forcing people to buy more loot boxes, but that seems like valid criticism either way.
It feels like the laziest way possible to pander to an audience. Women’s soccer is definitely growing, but this doesn’t seem like a real endorsement. EA gets all the credit and can quietly phase out women players if it actually becomes a problem.
That said I never played fifa, and won’t play this so I don’t really care either way.
A very close friend of mine works as a community facing employee for a large game company and as part of their job they have to make decisions that will inevitably make people angry. They’ve been very concerned lately about getting doxxed and harassed. Folks online often forget the human on the other side.
A) anything can be considered anything by somebody somewhere. What is your point?
B) legally, in most relevant jurisdictions, it is not legally a death threat.
C) It’s still a pretty awful thing to say to someone, and if people were repeatedly saying it to me over my hobby project, I’d definitely consider stopping.
D) what exactly are you trying to say with that comment? Because I really can’t read it as anything GOOD.
But… why though?? Just for the lulz? They must be doing SOMETHING that provoked this? (Not victim-blaming, whatever they’re doing doesn’t justify threats - just trying to understand what’s happening)
I don’t think this is it because the only commonality between bethesda fans I have ever seen is calling Todd a liar and hoping he falls into a mineshaft.
Why did you see “don’t harass employees” as “don’t offer criticism”? You can pretty easily say “I don’t like X about this game,” or “change Y seems like a step in the wrong direction” without harassing anyone.
When someone doesn’t listen to feedback or worse, derides them for even providing it people tend to get upset.
I have not condoned death threats, other threats of violence or harm and don’t intend to.
I don’t even play Destiny (1 or 2).
I’m just voicing my opinion that there’s a pattern between devs who believe community criticism is beneath them and people working themselves into a frenzy.
