I had an idea that I wanted to run by people that are more familiar with lemmy and decentralized hosting. I've run it by some people I know but they don't have the familiarity with the fediverse to have it easily explained. The idea is not fully fleshed out so would love any sort of criticism or refinement this group could...
I’m realizing I hadn’t actually voted on posts or comments in a long time, perhaps years. Between vote fuzzing and massive vote counts, it began to feel pointless to throw an upvote or downvote into the fray. Like how is my downvote supposed to count against over 1000 upvotes?...
I really want to like lemmy, but it’s difficult. I’m new to all this fediverse thingy, and I might just have old habits and perceptions how things should work but… I keep seeing the same posts more than once, iOS experience is not that good really, sometimes I see dead posts from 2 years ago for some reason, despite having...
With reddit we mostly had a single subreddit for a given topic, for the sake of the question let’s use gaming. If there were alternative subreddits dedicated to the same topic, they had names that gave that away. Do you think Lemmy will lead to more segmentation, and more information bubbles seeing as we now can have gaming@x...
What I think could make Lemmy superior to Reddit is the ability to create themed-instances that are all linked together which feels like the entire point. I've noticed that a lot of instances are trying to be a catch-all Reddit replacement by imitating specific subs which is understandable given the circumstances but seems like...
They don’t even want you to use the website I don’t think. They’ve even done experiments where they blocked people from using the mobile website. The more they want me to use their app, the more I want to avoid Reddit all together.
Its funny how both Reddit and Twitch announce API or policy changes that creates mass discussion within their respective communities regarding longevity and user experience. Both companies are doing shitty things for the $$$ and simultaneously creating mass exodus(es?) to other platforms....
Hey folks maybe it's server load but my jerboa client just can't seem to login to fedia.io Wondering if I'm done something wrong.. username and password are correct..
Let’s say Lemmy acquires the critical mass of users, continues to gain in popularity. Eventually someone will offer a large sum of money, the platform grows, new owners look towards an IPO, the goals shift, yadayada… How is different this time?
I discovered Lemmy as a reddit alternative once they introduced the api changes, and from what I understand, so did most of the current users. So I was wondering what was Lemmy like before that? Did any notable things or inside jokes happened? If you are one of the old users are you happy with this growth? Is there anything...
In the boiling chaos of reddit over the last few days, I scrolled past some allegations that I didn’t have a chance to thoroughly look into before today’s start to the blackout....
Well now we have Reddit alternative (lemmy, kbin, etc) and a Twitter alternative (Mastodon). I just came across an idea of a dating app/making friends fediverse but idk how would that work but looking at how dating apps are these days which are a total shit show, I am kinda curious to hear everyone’s thoughts on that idea.
Not sure if I’m even posting correctly but here goes. I’m pretty new to Lemmy, the whole reddit thing has just lead to me to deleting my old account and exploring new places. So far I like Lemmy and have learned how to subscribe and maneuver my way around instances and such. Also downloaded the ios beta app which I have...
First off, huge props. Lemmy seems to really nail the potential that early Reddit had, and having found some niche communities it seems like it actually won’t be impossible to build critical mass as a serious replacement. One feature im missing is a way to hide individual posts. I don’t want to block the user or the...
I don't mean to be pessimistic, bit since most subreddits are only going dark for a couple days, the site will basically be back to normal soon. I wonder how many users here are only here because of temporary outrage and not because they actually prefer Lemmy. I'm curious about people's outlook on this situation....
I saw a comment somewhere saying the title and had links but I lost the comment now. One of the links was going to raddle.me which is a Reddit like site
