Why do companies(states) insist on releasing their obviously inferior takes on things that are already on our phones and work well.

This will probably go the way of Apple Pay. Many companies insisting on using their version of mobile pay until they eventually cave because they finally realized how shit it is

I just looked up the California wallet app for this and it has such low ratings.

TheYear2525,

So that you’ll hand over your phone unlocked, so they can plug it into GrayKey real quick. Wallet support would leave your phone locked.

Delaware has the same setup, unfortunately the law still requires you to present a physical copy of your license when requested. So, the app is kind of pointless…

Task failed successfully.

Taleya,

Australia does this too. Mygov even have the balls to call it a wallet.

glad_cat,

They do it France too and pretend it’s more secure that everything that has been done before, even software that only store encrypted data locally.

It’s so annoying lol. I see absolutely no reason why I couldn’t have my Medicare card in the wallet app

heyspencerb,

That’s a shame! Still, very cool! What can you do with it besides airports? Do any stores actually accept it?

thebutler,

Colorado has a similar app (myColorado) and it is a legal ID. i’ve used it lots of places with no issue

The myColorado app is great as it stores a legal ID (except for police interactions???) as well as insurance and vaccine info. Colorado also supports the Apple wallet implementation, which is absolutely useless. The Apple wallet version can only be used at an airport, but when when I tried to use it at DIA the TSA officer just said “no”. I think Apple may be the one who is doing it wrong…

by “use” do you mean simply showing it? or scanning it?

thebutler,

it can be shown, and has a 3d tilt effect to differentiate from a screenshot. and can also be scanned

notfromhere,

In Colorado I’ve purchased age restricted items using the Colorado digital ID plenty of times.

BartsBigBugBag,

Yep. I actually stopped carrying around my ID because the new RealID cards are horrifically brittle and just destroy themselves in my wallet, but the digital ID is required to be accepted statewide anyway, so I only need the card when I go out of state.
