Wipr : No fuss ad blocker, one time payment. StopTheMadness : Native video player on the web (+YT) and many general web improvements. Sequel : Media tracking app (Movies, Shows, Games, Books) with a nice UI. It has a subscription, but the free version has worked well enough for me.
I’m using StopTheMadness which blocks YT ads and adds native apple media controls to the video players. It’s also got a bunch of other quality of life improvements for web browsing like hiding those annoying banners asking if you want to use the app. The features list is extensive, so check the app store to see if it’s worth the premium. The developer is attentive and has been improving the app a couple times a month since I got it, so it’s been well worth the price for me.
I used Video Lite for like a year before I sideloaded uYou+. Video lite is your best choice without sideloading. No video ads and they play in the background without premium, though you get in-app ads past the free trial
So I did look into IG, google messages and I think one other app does look at the message and phase it, iPhones don’t do this so we can get iMessage reaction but iOS can’t get ours
I also have like 6 installed. It’s helpful right now because posting and commenting frequently hangs forever on submit. The only way you can know your comment got posted is to switch to another app and check!
Mlem has really come along the last few weeks — looks nice now. And definitely more of an Apollo vibe. I checked out of it (and left the TestFlight) once the dev announced it was abandoned but it’s clearly back now.
Same. I usually say “they both suck.” Neither one really meets my expectations for what a desktop operating system should be able to do these days. Every now and then I find myself wishing for some little feature enhancement in Finder and shucks… that’s just never going to happen, is it?
This article is ridiculous because it doesn’t mention why these differences exist at all. Like for example Macs don’t have window snapping because Microsoft patented that feature back in the Windows Vista days. & Batch file renaming is a Unix thing. I have always liked Exposé and hot corners and also mission control, but many windows users hate it. It’s entirely subjective and not at all rational. I guess that’s the point of an opinion piece but it really lacks the context that would have made this article informative, just a little research would have been cool.
