Apple wants this to be primarily for A/R - not V/R. V/R is inherently isolating to users and those around the users. A/R allows a person to be present in reality, yet it’s greatly enhanced. I think that’s what they are after.
Honestly, I’m fine with this. I think most applications will be generally stationary experiences, and there’s no reason this can’t be adjusted or Apple introduce an “active mode” in the future for cases where it’s needed.
What I’m happy about is not having to physically define or draw a boundary every time the headset is used. My Quest often loses track of its boundary and needs to have it redrawn.
This is really greedy imo. Even with inflation the price of storage per gb has decreased by ~90% since 2009. Big downside to being so vendor locked in. It’s not like I can use something like b2 buckets as a replacement.
iPad Air. You’ll want more screen real estate and it comes with the M1 Chip. The newest Mini uses the A15 so you’ll likely get fewer years of updates with it.
But for school, I’d really recommend getting a laptop. Some classes require certain programs that may not work on an iPad or even an Apple Silicon Mac. For example, a lot of engineers recommend Windows laptops so they can use their school’s preferred 3D/CAD modeling software.
It sounds like they’re planning to launch it with the new OS. Just started using Day One myself. I’m curious how the free version will compare to Apple
I would guess it will probably similar to Freeform. November or December. I don’t think it ever was in any of the beta builds, it just showed up on the App Store.
so per 9to5mac, these features are "worth the wait"
possible “dynamic island” availability in non-pro versions
higher photo quality via increased mega pixels
greater optical zoom with new "periscope lens system"
weight reduction due to change in materials
change to mute switch via a customizable button
change from lighting to USB-C
increased cost of iPhone 15 (lol this is a feature? good journalism, 9to5mac)
Don’t really care for this stuff to be honest. Repairability of iPhones is getting worse every year. From proprietary hardware and software locks on components which disable features if those flags are not reset by an Apple technician.
I would consider upgrading if finger print recognition was brought back. Maybe embed the sensor under the screen like I have seen on some other phones.
Loved my 27” iMac but ever since going to a Mac Mini with my own display, I can’t ever go back to an iMac unless they allow me to use the iMac’s display with other devices. I’d be back immediately if they did as their displays are gorgeous.
