Switching to Android: good resources for learning?

I’m planning to get a Pixel 8 this month after using only iPhones since my first iPhone in ~2010. I used to be a big Apple fan, so I have a good understanding of iOS, good iOS apps, etc, from years of Apple blogs, podcasts, etc. I have nowhere near the same level of understanding of Android. For instance, I was just watching a video recommending a particular app and it mentioned ABD permissions, which I had to go look up. I’d love any recommendations y’all might have for good, ideally not boring resources that I can use to get a good understanding of the Android system, power user concepts, good apps, etc. Thanks!

The Pixel 8 is a great hardware choice, but I recommend installing GrapheneOS which massively improves your privacy and security. It’s super easy and doesn’t have major downsides. I recommend this video: youtube.com/watch?v=yTeAFoQnQPo

Be aware that every Android phone maker modifies the OS in one way or another, what might apply for a Samsung, might not apply for a Pixel, vice versa.

In actual tutorial advice, Google has guide books for the Pixel, even tutorials on how to transfer data from your old IPhone to your new Pixel: guidebooks.google.com/pixel

I have been using Android since near the beginning. My first smartphone was an HTC Droid Incredible. I use Linux on all my computers and have done so for over 15 years. Just trying to set the stage for my level of tech savviness.

I have not used any apps that require ADB permissions in probably 10 years.

Basically treat it similarly to your iPhone to get started. If you have particular apps you’re looking for we can make recommendations or you can just search for lists of specific types of apps (best podcast app, best RSS reader, etc…).

The few times I’ve tried messing with ADB, it’s been a pain in the butt. It’s never been worth the effort for me.
