I have a tendency to go on long-winded rants fairly often. Maybe cause I'm a pastor's kid 😝, but I admit I get preachy. But it's not, as many tend to assume, because I think I'm always right and everybody should listen to me. It's because I know I see the world differently from others, and my perspective has helped enough people round out their own worldviews ("I've never thought of it like that before" is something I've heard a LOT) that I feel like it's worth sharing. @actuallyautistic
@Vincarsi@actuallyautistic same. I have this fantasy that I have a divergent mind that is sort of pristine, that I never really listened to the world, and that there is something to learn from its workings 🙄 😇
@punishmenthurts@actuallyautistic well, in my case I definitely wouldn't use the word "pristine". But the metaphor my husband used is that it's like if there was a commotion going on at a busy intersection, most people are at street level talking to each other to figure out what's happening, but I'm on a nearby rooftop looking down. So I see what's actually happening more clearly, but it's harder to work out how people are reacting to it so I'm more likely to miss the social fallout

I tried to soften that word, it's just that, maybe only online, but there are a lotta Autistics that are speaking the same language as the NT world, I had expected to find everyone just like me or something. There sort of is only one game, one language, but I want another one, our own science with our own perspective.

But even that runs into issues of intersectionality of marginalizations, and further than that, individual life and sociocultural circumstances.
Basically, I'm rapidly moving towards a very social/cultural relativism point of view where there ISN'T any "right way" to view a situation. At best there's the "plurality way" because most of the observers happen to be similar enough in brain structure, social/cultural upbringing, and marginalizations to view the situation in a similar way.
There's not just the "NT Way" and the "ND Way" of viewing a thing, there's an infinite number of ways to view a thing, and none are inherently more "right" or "wrong" than any other. It's why trying to judge based on someone's intent is pointless. There's no way to objectively measure what was correctly intentioned or not.
@JessTheUnstill@Vincarsi@actuallyautistic I'm a very late and pretty recent hatchling, and I am coming to see there is no ND way, that's the diversity - but I have to disagree, there is a "way," associated with particular neurotypes or it doesn't mean anything, and the whole world is run by Allistics, in the Allistic way, with Allistic language. That's like statecraft, you provide the language, you rule the land, control the narrative. That we are "divergent," like they are some God given straight line to some glorious future is an example.
I think it’s also complicated by the fact that some NTs are indeed “recently hatched” (I’m stealing that one!) & haven’t yet fully shaken out their internalised ableism. (I surprise & embarrass myself sometimes.) Then there’s all of the undiagnosed & oblivious people out there, who are either trying desperately hard to fit in with NTs when there are diverging perspectives, or find themselves straddling the divide. I suspect I was in the latter group for most of my life.
Yeah, sometimes I gotta do a rant just to get the thoughts out of my brain, and if I'm lucky, at least get a little validation that other people are angry about the same things...
