theinspectorst, in Now that you've used Lemmy and /kbin which do you prefer and why?
@theinspectorst@kbin.social avatar

I think Kbin, but the lack of an easy to navigate list of subscribed magazines has made me rethink a few times. On Lemmy, it's easier to get to a list of what communities you're subscribed to and the 'local' feed option can be quite useful too (e.g. on feddit.uk I can more easily use this to browse the UK content).

Double_A,

This. I miss the list of things I'm subscribed to that reminds me to check in on some of those communities from time to time.

Naminreb,

You can find that in your profile.

Open your profile, and at least in mobile, there’s a menu showing you your active posts, threads….and subscriptions is towards the end.

I use it for the same reason you describe here.

Hope it helps.

theinspectorst,
@theinspectorst@kbin.social avatar

You can, but it takes several clicks and a bit of scrolling, and that only gets you to a non-alphabetical list that is inexplicably cut over multiple pages. It's making it unnecessarily difficult.

On Lemmy, they have a button at the top of the screen titled 'Subscribed', and if you click it you get a drop-down with all your subscribed communities alphabetically organised right there.

oxyeth,

You can go to https://kbin.social/u/YOUR_USERNAME/subscriptions to see your subscriptions. Replace with your own username and bookmark the URL and you can easily get to your subscriptions.

If you're using a browser, try this userscript. It adds a wonderful list on the side bar.

Jezebelley,
@Jezebelley@kbin.social avatar

I use that on my laptop browser. Awesome script.

Rhaedas,
@Rhaedas@kbin.social avatar

Wow, thanks for the link. The default interface is why I've tended to use kbin since getting an account for both, but finding user scripts like this for kbin to fine tune things is why I'm staying unless Lemmy changes a lot.

Hanabie,
@Hanabie@kbin.social avatar

I like and use both. There's no reason to just pick one and stick with it.

Friend, in Now that you've used Lemmy and /kbin which do you prefer and why?
@Friend@kbin.social avatar

Kbin all day. Reminds me of old forums so it's got the nostalgia appeal.

brianlenz, in Now that you've used Lemmy and /kbin which do you prefer and why?

I like kbin, but I'm not in love with the mobile UI, so I'm really just wanting to get a nice app.

shipoopi,

I heard Sync for Lemmy will have kbin support at some point after the main launch

riktor,
@riktor@kbin.social avatar

This is how I feel. I tried both but ended up gravitating to kbin. Once you spend some time familiarizing yourself with the features and UI, it is pretty pleasant to explore.

blightbow,
@blightbow@kbin.social avatar

In the meantime, you can use the gear icon and enable compact mode if you want to do less scrolling. The icon is hidden below all posts on mobile unfortunately.

SweetAIBelle, in I just found out that the people onboard the Titan submarine are dead. Is OceanGate in trouble?
@SweetAIBelle@kbin.social avatar

Well, "our CEO just died on our submarine" would tend to be a problem for a company...

Photon,

This is the correct answer.

ivanafterall, in What country do you recommend for visiting?
@ivanafterall@kbin.social avatar

The Netherlands. Also one of the most-beautiful, friendly, weird places I've ever visited.

szczur, in If you could place any object on the surface of Mars, purely to confuse NASA scientists, what would it be?
@szczur@kbin.social avatar

Penguin Originals: "An Epic of Gilgamesh".

Semmelstulle, in What country do you recommend for visiting?
@Semmelstulle@kbin.social avatar

Kinder Country 🇩🇪🤡

Devi, in What country do you recommend for visiting?

Seconding Iceland. I also like a lot of Central Europe, Czech republic, Hungary, Poland, their history isn't something I feel I was taught in school or by TV so everything I learned there felt brand new, plus they're stunning.

davetansley, in What country do you recommend for visiting?
@davetansley@kbin.social avatar

Iceland. One of the most beautiful, weird, friendly places I've ever visited.

RheingoldRiver,

My vote is for Iceland too! If you fly their airline, you get to stay there without paying the cost of airfare any time you are flying between Europe & the USA, by turning your layover into a "stopover." It's 100% worth taking advantage of! Plus, shorter plane flights on either end :)

@stephfinitely@kbin.social avatar

I think post need to be renamed and to keep with the magazines motif we should call them "Inserts".

Nepenthe, (edited )
@Nepenthe@kbin.social avatar

Inserts are those junk ads that always fall out everywhere when you pick a magazine up, right? How about Editorial, since posts/microblogs tend heavily towards being longish personal commentary?

Although Ernest said a few days ago he was thinking of changing the terminology. I don't remember if he said to what, just that he should. Kinda mixed about that. It makes talking about them more confusing both for cross-platform and for new users, but I got used to it now and I fear change

weremacaque,
@weremacaque@kbin.social avatar

I've already started calling magazines "mags" in my head. I think it's fine the way it is, though if they were renamed to "zines" that would be fine too.

Countmacula, in What is Kbin’s identity?

kbin just seems so much easier to me

CauldronCat, in If you could place any object on the surface of Mars, purely to confuse NASA scientists, what would it be?
@CauldronCat@kbin.social avatar

A pen lid with the long bit broken off, a shopping trolly token, 1 threadbare sock, a novelty rubber (eraser), and one of those black twisty wires that are used to tie up new USB cables, all sealed in a sandwich bag with 'aubergine curry' written on it in janky handwriting.

Why all this random rubbish? Because it'll absolutely screw with their brains!

billothekid2, in What is Kbin’s identity?
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

I agree that the naming scheme is a bit weird and confusing. In most people's terminology, when you leave any kind of a comment on the internet it's considered a "post". You "post" a comment. I'm kinda hoping this gets changed, but I suppose I might just get used to it. It's all still quite new after all.

RoboRay, in What is Kbin’s identity?
@RoboRay@kbin.social avatar

It's trying to be one-stop shopping for decentralized social media. There are future plans for integration with Pixelfed and other federated services.

JustHach, in If you could place any object on the surface of Mars, purely to confuse NASA scientists, what would it be?
@JustHach@kbin.social avatar

A throne with a skeleton decked out in ancient roman clothing.
