90%+ rubbing alcohol makes a very good solvent for removing things like this. And it's probably cheaper than goo-gone.

NeatoBurrito,

I use rubbing alcohol for everything. Works really well to get tree sap and tar off of your car too.

Alcohol solvent can make this worse depending on the adhesive. It can just spread the stuff and thin it out. Someone else suggested oil, that's the ticket. Bit of olive oil on a rough cloth brings it right up. Wd40 was also suggested, same idea. You want it to move easily, not dissolve.

One of the few things WD40 is actually good for.

WD40 is great for dealing with things that are rusted in place, which is what it's supposed to be used for. It's just that it's not a great lubricating oil, and people often recommend it for use as that. Too thin and leaves a waxy residue to repel more water from rusting the surface, which you often don't want in things that you're lubricating.

iAmTheTot, in The worst physical pain you've ever experienced ?
@iAmTheTot@kbin.social avatar

Real bad tooth infection. Hurt so bad I couldn't sleep, just constant indescribable pain for 14+ hours that you cannot numb with OTC products until I could get in to the emergency dentist appointment. Genuinely would not wish it on my worst enemy.

Second place would be getting tattooed on the elbow ditch. It hurt about as much as above, but didn't last nearly as long.

I wish I had known about kbin three weeks ago!

Guadin, in How does comment federation work?
@Guadin@k.fe.derate.me avatar

Your understanding of how it works is mostly correct. When an instance federates a magazine, all new posts, comments, likes, downvotes, etc. will be federated/shared. But currently kbin and lemmy are not playing nice (the software that is) so it can take time or miss updates all together. Also, kbin.social is a bit jusy so there are delays as well.

Hyperreality, in How do I remove sticker residue from glass containers?

Heat and peel (slowly). You can pop some hot water in it or use a hairdryer.

Strong alchol on a cloth or papertowel to remove what remains.

If all else fails WD40 also works.

This is from removing labels from cars, where you have to be careful to prevent damage to the paint/clear coat.

With glass you can use a razor to scrape off whatever remains, but mostly it's not necessary.

frozen, in How does comment federation work?

Two big things:

Time - Federation takes time. Especially if servers are overloaded or haven’t allocated enough federation workers. Both of these things have been true at some point for most instances since the population boom.

Defederation - Different instances can defederate from other different instances. So say for example I have three instances, lemmy.one, lem.two, and kbin.three. In this example, lemmy.one has defederated from kbin.three and the post in question is on lem.two/c/community.

You now have three scenarios:

  1. A user visits lem.two/c/community and sees all the content.
  2. A user visits kbin.three/m/[email protected] (or however kbin does cross instance URIs, I’m not familiar). This user sees most of the content. The limited factor here being time.
  3. A user visits lemmy.one/c/[email protected]. This user sees most of the content, but no comments from kbin.three because of defederation.

And I could be wrong, but I believe vote federation is separate from comment federation, so if that takes more time, then the comments sections might look different even if they have the exact same comments because of vote sorting.

Hyperreality,

Is this why I often don't see reply notifications?

frozen,

That’s an excellent question, I have no idea.

Hyperreality,

Me neither. Didn't see your reply either. Had to go back to the comments here to find out.

Wonder if it's a kbin/lemmy thing, because I think I receive a notification for 1/50 replies.

As others have said, isopropyl alcohol works great to remove adhesive residue. Just don't use it with certain plastics.

Pandantic, in How do I remove sticker residue from glass containers?
@Pandantic@kbin.social avatar

I suggest, if it's not too gooey, grab some packing tape, and press it on the adhesive. Then, pull it off quickly. You might have to do this a few times, but it's the best method I've found that doesn't leave residue, and also works with most sticky adhesives.

frozen, in Will we ever have a kbin app for Android or IOS ?

The developer of Sync for Reddit is working on a Lemmy app and mentioned kbin support as a possibility.

kratoz29, in Will we ever have a kbin app for Android or IOS ?

Sync for Lemmy will have Kbin support AFAIK.

moxkobold, in How do I remove sticker residue from glass containers?

There's a citrus based cleaning spray that usually does the trick for me, or isopropyl alcohol could work as well

viciousflamingos, in Will we ever have a kbin app for Android or IOS ?

So far, there is an unnamed app in progress from the developer of Pixelfed, and another app called Artemis, which is currently in private Beta.

RheingoldRiver,

Private Alpha actually. Not quite at beta stage, but it's coming along really well! (not a dev)

fsniper, in How do I remove sticker residue from glass containers?

Isopropyl alcohol works. I used IPA for cleaning car windows from sticker residue.

Close tie between getting shot close range on my hand and my lower-back hernia that burst while I was doing a squat with weight on my back.
