To copy and paste my comment from another thread regarding down votes:
I never really saw the point of downvotes/reduces on Lemmy and Kbin. There isn't an equivalent of those actions on other Fediverse projects (except if you count reactions on Pleroma) and it causes problems like what you have described [in the thread the OP was describing being downvote bombed through no fault of their own].
I use the kbin enhancement script's option to hide the reduce button because I have no reason to touch it.
Reddit has downvotes as a means of rating down content that doesn't contribute to the discussion or is spammy, but it tends to be used as a lazy "I disagree" button that attracts bandwaggoning. Why put in the effort to explain why you disagree with something when you can just hit the down arrow and be done?
I do not know what the intended purpose of downvotes/reduces is here on Kbin. Is it a lazy disagree button or is it like what Reddit intends where comments and posts that don't contribute should be downvoted?
In a browser, visit a Lemmy instance's main page. The admins are listed in the sidebar. Note their usernames.
Still in a browser, go to your home instance and login. Hit the search magnifying glass in the top right corner, and do a user search for whichever admin you want to message. You may have to type in their whole ID in the form @exampleuser@instancename. When their name comes up in the search results, click on it and you should see a "Send Message" button as part of their profile.
It looks like you've only posted it to @MagHub, which is relatively small. There's other places to post new communities, @newcommunities being the largest one.
I can't seem to post there without a lemmy world account. I had an account there but deleted it because it was always down when i tried to browse it. lol.
I don't believe so. However, it seems to me like the fediverse, in general, is less bad about you getting access to your data. I would bet you could create software that could migrate a lot between instances.
AFAIK this isn’t a built-in feature in ActivityPub and Kbin doesn’t implement a migration feature similar to Mastodon.
All you can do is copy your subscriptions from an instance to another (there are tools for doing that with Lemmy, I haven’t found any for Kbin), which means you can’t migrate your posts to another instance, neither automatically make your followers follow your new profile.
I only have a phone due to social pressure, it’s only an absolute last resort for me. Desktop/laptop, where I can actually see everything and have a proper keyboard and shortcuts, all the way. I’m told I’m a dying breed but it amazes me how so many people can stand to use their phone as much as they do, because to me it’s infuriating.
Just as a separate follow-up comment (if you’ll excuse the double posting): I’m surprised the response here has been generally so anti-smartphone so far, given that the mass-migration from Reddit to KBin/Lemmy has been characterised as a reaction to Reddit killing mobile apps.
The reddit API shit didn’t impact my reddit use at all, but it was such a shitty thing for people that it spurned me to bail. I haven’t been back to reddit since. Things don’t have to impact me personally for me to react.
I do have a smartphone but I tend to only use it as a consumption device. I prefer to use a laptop connected to an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse to produce stuff.
I prefer the laptop even for simple things like filling out online forms
I don't browse the Fediverse on my computer, but if I'm home I use my desktop for everything. I game on it and I don't have very much disposable income, so I don't have a laptop and my phone is a good four or five generations back.
