Cephirux, to movies in [DISCUSSION] [SPOILERS] - KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON - Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Lily Gladstone

Seems promising, even longer than Oppenheimer somehow, just like the Irishmen. Might watch it in cinema.

Steve, to movies in Hollywood’s Biggest Stars Offer To Kick In $150M Over Three Years In Dues To Help End Actors Strike Stalemate
@Steve@communick.news avatar

"A lot of the top earners want to be part of the solution,” the two-time Oscar winner told Deadline. “We’ve offered to remove the cap on dues, which would bring over $50 million to the union annually. Well over $150 million over the next three years. We think it’s fair for us to pay more into the union. We also are suggesting a bottom-up residual structure — meaning the top of the call sheet would be the last to collect residuals, not the first. These negotiations will be ongoing, but we wanted to show that we’re all in this together and find ways to help close the gap on actors getting paid.”

That’s really great actually. It isn’t about helping the studios end the strike sooner. It’s about helping making the union stronger. And ensuring those need residuals more, get them.

Ech, this is like macro tipping culture.

Bosses don’t want to pay workers fair wages, so the workers pass around alms.

djsoren19, to movies in ‘Alien: Romulus’: Ridley Scott Says Fede Álvarez’s Movie Is “F***ing Great”

I know the franchise has been on a downhill, but I really loved Dan Trachtenberg’s Prey and felt that it breathed life into the Predator as a menace once more. Maybe all Alien needs is a nice, smaller budget, more classically focused sci-fi horror film to revitalize the franchise. I don’t know if Fede is necessarily the prime choice, Dan at least had the excellent 10 Cloverfield Lane under their chops, but I think giving relatively new directors tired franchises is great.

The bars pretty low right now.

buckykat, to quarks in Bob Bakish Says “The Notion That The Strikes Have Saved Paramount Is Wildly Overstated” – Mipcom Cannes

Who gives a shit what the president of the company thinks of the strikes?

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

What did he say about what he thinks of the strikes?

buckykat,

It’s what the entire article is about

“The notion that the strikes saved the company is wildly overstated,” Bob Bakish said of Paramount today.

Any statement from management about strikes should be assumed to be the direct opposite of the truth.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

He’s responding to claims that the company has benefited the company, which is well within the realm of what a CEO would be expected to talk about.

The ony thing that approaches an opinion about the strike is the statement that he wants to resolve it soon, which…horror!

buckykat,

He could resolve it tomorrow by accepting the union’s reasonable demands. He could have resolved it weeks ago by accepting the union’s reasonable demands.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

As far as I’m aware neither he nor anyone from Paramount are part of the negotiating committee.

buckykat,

He’s the head of the company, he could accept the union’s terms on behalf of Paramount any time.

ValueSubtracted,
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

That’s true, he could. But I’ve seen no evidence that he’s actively fighting the union’s demands unlike Iger, Zaslav, and Sarandos. I’d love to see evidence to the contrary if it exists, though.

Amazing to think about all the changes she saw first hand in Hollywood since her youth. Side note, she was married to director Richard L. Bare who died in 2015 at the age of 101. Bare directed 7 Twilight Zone episodes including To Serve Man

Last year we lost Marsha Hunt at 104 (1917-2022) before that Norman Lloyd at 106 (1919-2021) & Olivia de Havilland at 104 (1916-2020)

Norman Lear is 101, Glynis Johns just turned 100 last Thursday, Mel Brooks is 97.

Why dont they just lower decks? Scamming final space made me lose all interest in the greedmachine.

This is a good change. I think we could be in a much better place if companies that owned both production and streaming were more open about licensing.

The pendulum seems to be swinging back toward that model, at least in some cases.

GoodAaron, (edited ) to startrek in ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Finds New Home At Netflix After Paramount+ Cancellation

Hi everyone! Netflix by far is the best home for Prodigy in the current streaming landscape.

They have the largest media share and Star Trek has historically done exceptionally well on their service — this opens the door for more seasons of our show.

Animated shows like “The Dragon Prince” have run up to seven seasons on Netflix.

“Longmire” was saved from cancellation and was renewed for an additional five seasons by Netflix. So was “Lucifer,” and many others.

Feel free to celebrate!

linux2647,

Thank you for bringing us Prodigy in the first place! It such a great show and I’m so glad to hear it find a new home. Keep up the great work!

So you’re saying it’s already cancelled again.

_stranger_,

new record incoming, removed from the service before even being added.

2000mph, to startrek in ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Finds New Home At Netflix After Paramount+ Cancellation

Glad it got picked up. I thought it would be Amazon Prime most likely to get it as they’d already invested in Picard. But I’m fine with Netflix. I’m due to get back round to Netflix after Christmas on my subscription rotation plan so hopefully I can binge watch both seasons of Prodigy by then.

gnuplusmatt,

I was hoping for Prime, but their kids offering is pretty anemic compared to Netflix. With the cost of Netflix it only gets a few months a year in our household too
