I love the way it handles trans characters. In today’s comic it’s revealed that the other girl is actually a guy too, so they’re two trans guys who love each other. It’s so sweet! 🥰

Here’s some of my own, in no particular order:

Gotham Chess - also known for his catchphrase: “Sacrifices… THE ROOK!!!”. Yeah, that guy.

Kyle Hill is a science communicator and makes awesome educational content; he also debunks conspiracy theories.

Jeff Geerling is a RasPi aficionado who’s made tons of projects.

Louis Rossmann specializes in consumer tech (mostly computers); he’s a great critic of corporations and DRM.

Jenna Moreci is a published fantasy writer and has great videos on what to do and not to do when writing fiction.

One Topic at a Time - shares LGBTQ memes found on reddit. His voice may sound annoying. (What can I say? It’s an acquired taste)

Bits inside by René Rebe specializes in Linux and Open Source stuff.

Noralities is a girl who makes video essays about anime, and they’re not trivial opinions They involve writing, stereotypes, romance, society, and stuff. She’s done her homework.

EDIT: Added details.

It’s a matter of taste. I like his humor, but I do understand he’s not for everybody. Yeah, Anna Cramling is one of my favs, too.

Tell him to go live in the US in a rented apartment on an average salary. Bet he’ll change his mind in 3 months.

This might be the beginning of the end for Putin. They’re going to “retire” him, if you know what I mean.

What's a 'dirty word' that you hate hearing when it's used to describe something or someone?

I hate the word ‘Consumer’ or I mockingly call it ‘CONSOOMER’. Because that’s to imply everyone in the world is just cattle, but with wallets. We’re no longer customers. We’re consumers now. And a consumer’s purpose is to consume shit, whatever is put out there. Got money? Shut up and consume, it’s what...

yuki2501,
@yuki2501@lemmy.world avatar

“Lesbian.” I don’t hate the word, but the fact that it is considered dirty. Why is “brunette” or “blonde” perfectly acceptable, but “lesbian” or “gay” aren’t?

The same company that just proposed a spec to force you to use specific software to browse the web in order to prevent you from using ad blockers?

… yeah right, and I got a bridge NFT to sell you.

The year is 2020.

Covid was in full force, and we were suddenly assigned impossible tasks in very little time. Not to mention we hadn’t been given a raise in more than 2 years, not because the company finances were bad, but because the owner was a greedy bastard.

Then one person decided to quit. And another. And another.

What did the owner do? Raise salaries to keep the personnel? No, he let them leave and loaded all the work onto us.

I decided I wouldn’t be the one crushed by that load, so I was the next to leave. Bye bye.

Why doesn’t it surprise me that Elon didn’t give a shit about his neighbors?

yuki2501,
@yuki2501@lemmy.world avatar

Don’t think this is a strange phenomenon or that it’s permanent. I’ve seen Mastodon (and Pleroma and Misskey etc) instances get born and die regularly. This is because it’s easy to set up an instance but it’s also easy to fall in an economic problem or just give up.

Not everyone is ready to set up their own instance; it requires dedication and resources.

Credit and debit cards are not as secure as banks pretend them to be. Chips can be cloned with a cheap device sold in the black market (this is known as “skimming”). PINs can be easily stolen simply by eavesdropping.

My personal opinion: A business you frequent has been constantly skimming credit and debit cards. If you give your card to any salesperson and lose sight of it, the probability of it getting skimmed is pretty high.

NEVER give out your card. Ask for the salespeople to give you the terminal and scan it yourself.

Other than that, change your passwords, and NEVER reuse them.

EDIT: As others have said, NEVER EVER use your debit cards on the internet. Ask if your credit card company provides virtual credit cards (which require you to use a phone app to authorize every transaction). If not, choose another company.

From the bandwagon: GothamChess. He’s a bit too dramatic at times, but it’s fun.

From the people that gave us “we did a favor to the Japanese by nuking them”, get ready for… “slavery benefited the slaves.”

Not surprised at all.

Worse: When you watch a short that appeared in your search results, all related videos are general shorts and NOT more search results. It’s too distracting, and for a person with ADHD such as myself, it kills my productivity. 🤬

LOL this reminds me of the numerous news articles that kept saying how Mastodon wouldn’t scale and how it would never take off. The most ridiculous one: “Mastodon is crumbling”. (We’re over 13 million users right now.)

Fun fact: Tetrachromacy occurs in 50% of women and 8% of men according to one study.

That depends on how the admins decide to run their instances. After several crises and dramas, etc., I can say that those who decide to monetize eventually will; but so far people have been supporting their admins through crowdfunding.

The really big instances are deciding to be open to Facebook in exchange for big money. A lot of folks in other instances don’t like it, and some instances have already decided to defederate from them in advance (search for the hashtag #FediPact). Yes, there’s lot of drama involved.

yuki2501,
@yuki2501@lemmy.world avatar

And then they started hosting transphobic content and refused to follow their own instance’s rules, so almost all other instances defederated.

Same here. RIF was my default app of choice when using reddit, both to read and make posts.

It’s so sad to see this coming to an end. But I’m glad to know this is not over and people are moving to other places to reestablish their communities.

My only wish is that TalkLittle manages ro create a fedi app that works just like RIF.

Until then, so long and thank you for making this wonderful app.

Oh, we do have flame wars. We just call them drama. They're not a good thing to watch :-/

The difference between Lemmy and Mastodon, is that the former is topic centric. There are subreddits and each post is topic specific. Mastodon is people centric. You’re not on Mastodon to see what’s happening around the world or what interests you, you’re on Mastodon to see what your friends are up to. It’s the difference between going to the public plaza and going to an expo.
