wingsfortheirsmiles,

Something better left to (say) the Culture books, rip Banks

wingsfortheirsmiles,

Love it, also I finally cracked under the weight of your advent calendar posts and ordered the USS Thunderchild. If Blue Brixx release the USS Prometheus that’s another purchase from me (see feddit.uk/comment/4417683)!

wingsfortheirsmiles,

I feel fortunate that I don’t rely on software that’s not on Linux, unfortunately very much not the case for all

wingsfortheirsmiles,

Probably just temporary image retention

wingsfortheirsmiles,

Looks like a Christmas pressie from me to me

  1. Akira, a slick updated take on the Miranda imo! In my head canon this took over from that and the Excelsior class as the workhorse of the fleet.
  2. Species 8472 bio shop, still remember my original reaction of being blown away. Love that the profile reminds me of a missile
  3. Prometheus, though The Doc/Voyager crew were the heroes it was cool to see an ultra militaristic Starfleet vessel. Multi vector assault mode!
  4. Constitution: what can I say, I love a ship with 4 nacelles! Like the Excelsior, not very elegant from the top but it grabbed my attention as a kid.
  5. Nebula: the module on the top always intrigued me, I love that it’s use can be changed to suit the current mission or role.
wingsfortheirsmiles,

Oop yup, meant Constellation class

wingsfortheirsmiles,

Ah, nice bit of trivia there

New Fedora Slimbook 14" joins the Fedora Slimbook 16" - Fedora Magazine (fedoramagazine.org)

We heard your feedback during the launch of the Fedora Slimbook 16 and, along with the folks from Slimbook, bring you the new Fedora Slimbook 14, a smaller, lighter, cheaper with even better battery life, version of the Fedora Slimbook, powered by an Intel CPU and GPU (unfortunetely no AMD version soon).

wingsfortheirsmiles,

Very interested in this, my refurb Dell laptop with Pop has been perfect but I’d love to support Linux first hardware

wingsfortheirsmiles,

I agree on the predictability on Boimler’s story in this episode, but I think it’s rushing through his progression from hyper competent junior officer to competent commander (or manager or delegator even). Also it’s an opportunity to explore T’Lyn’s dynamic with other characters like you say. Mariner would’ve probably just taken charge (she believes in him but probably would’ve run out of patience), I imagine Tendi might’ve tried to be supportive as is her nature in addition to using her officer training and Rutherford would’ve cooked up some techy shortcut.

I enjoyed seeing him speaking confidently with the captain, especially in the midst of all the chaos. That shows how much he’s progressed over the course of the show imo

wingsfortheirsmiles,

That’s why only Ensigns are forced to do holodeck waste removal duty

Future of the Force

Honestly I was only skimming these not wanting to accidentally spoil anything for myself, so I’m not sure what else they add! Just searching for them is building real hype for season 4, LD is easily my favourite NuTrek show though I’m a fan of SNW and Prodigy too

wingsfortheirsmiles,

Something like Slay the Spire should be easy to run, essential roguelike deckbuilder

wingsfortheirsmiles,

I bought this in EA a number of months back and was pretty impressed despite the limited number of gameplay options (basically skirmish at the start I think?). Pretty polished out the gate, nice mix of victory options like other 4x games and at a reasonable £25 too. Would recommend to any strategy fan even at that price, definitely to any Dune fans or when on sale.

wingsfortheirsmiles,

Are there any plans for a new flagship HTC phone? Still remember being blown away by my colleague’s all metal M8

wingsfortheirsmiles,

The SNW/LD crossover episode was one of the most anticipated things of 2023 for me and fully delivered, just the perfect loveletter to being a Trekkie whilst also building on a fair number of personal plot developments.

If you’ve not already watched it I’d check out Prodigy too - it’s probably the most underrated Nu Trek series imo being aimed at younger viewers. That said I loved it as an adult (ostensibly) and am praying season 2 gets picked up soon.

As to the topic, I can’t think of anything as even series heavy on world building/low on action at the start like Andor or The Expense drew me in from the beginning.

wingsfortheirsmiles,

Doesn’t exactly reflect well on Asus’ customer service but good to get confirmation at least (especially as someone who just bought a ZF10!)

wingsfortheirsmiles, (edited )

Hickman is one of my favourite writers, easily!

1st: Black Monday Murders (not sci fi but so so good, I love occult stuff like this)

2nd: Decorum

4th=: Manhatten Projects and East of West

Given the success of Oppenheimer I’m surprised Manhattan Projects isn’t getting more love. I’d love a second volume of Decorum but you have to be patient with Hickman haha

wingsfortheirsmiles,

Assuming Asus deliver on the improved software support, I’m strongly considering jumping to the ZF10

wingsfortheirsmiles,

I agree with you but I think they were trying to get the setup across with her sparring with M’Benga at the beginning, and the doc saying something to the effect of it better not being alone? He’s already established to be a good reader of body language.

But I have to say I did sigh inwardly when the romance angle was hinted at (her looking at Kirk in the night). Would’ve been better to keep it back for something developed over a time. Though I suppose given the end there’s the possibly of a relationship with the Kirk from her reality?
