whatwhatwhatwhat,

I have “good” and was offered 9% in early October.

One good sign is that banks are lowering their rates for longer term CDs. I’m seeing 1 year CDs in the 6% range, but a 5 year CD is more like 2%-3%. This means that the banks expect the fed to lower rates in the next few years.

Hospitals have special protection under the rules of war. Why are they in the crosshairs in Gaza? (apnews.com)

JERUSALEM (AP) — The head of surgery at Gaza’s largest and most advanced hospital held up his phone Saturday to the hammering of gunfire and artillery shelling. “Listen,” said Dr. Marwan Abu Sada as fighting raged around Shifa Hospital.

whatwhatwhatwhat,

Not sure why you’re being downvoted… Israel an ethnostate, and what we’re seeing here are the early stages of a genocide. Look at any other ethnic cleansing in history, and you’ll easily see the parallels.

whatwhatwhatwhat,

You know, I was trying to tread lightly, lest the Zionist apologists show up to try and redefine “genocide”.

But the reality is this:

  • Tens of thousands of civilians are being murdered (shot, bombed, starved, water supply poisoned) by Israel’s military.
  • Israel is an ethnostate which believes that their race makes them god’s chosen people.
  • One of the Israeli government cabinet members has declared that the Palestinians in Gaza must be eradicated, and that he would drop a nuclear bomb on Gaze if he could.

When you use the U.N.’s definition of genocide (“acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group”), the picture is pretty clear.

whatwhatwhatwhat,

I didn’t receive it as pedantic or talking down at all. I just totally agree with you as well!

whatwhatwhatwhat,

If you are in the United States, please use a tool like Democracy.io to contact your representatives and demand that they condemn Israel for these atrocities.

whatwhatwhatwhat,

Hey man, I’m just another helpless non-billionaire pretending I can make a difference.

whatwhatwhatwhat,

I hope you’re joking.

Even if you made $300k a year (which is 5 times the national average), you probably wouldn’t have $267k left after a year of housing, utilities, living expenses, taxes, transportation, healthcare, etc. Cost of living in the US is terrible.

[Question] Which shell prompt do you use and why?

Hi. I’ve been using powerlevel10k for a long time, but a few days ago, I decided I wanted to customize it a bit. I opened the .p10k.zsh file, and I was shocked. It’s really massive, with TONS of options. I’ve been digging through for a few hours already, and it’s absolutely amazing how much you can customize it without...

whatwhatwhatwhat,

freedom to customize the shell

This is always the issue for me – I ssh into several machines for various clients every day. All of those clients have one thing in common: equally strict and inconsistent policies about what packages you can use from where and for what reason. “I like this shell better” would never fly, sadly.

whatwhatwhatwhat,

And I literally just bought a Hyundai last night…

whatwhatwhatwhat,

Well, my cat only threw up on the carpet a little bit today, so which animal is the real hero?

whatwhatwhatwhat,

THANK YOU. Honestly the amount of taxpayer money our educational institutions spend in actual games is ridiculous. Meanwhile the physics department at my local CalState school had to cancel classes earlier this year due to a heat wave – their building doesn’t have A/C.

whatwhatwhatwhat,

Unfortunately, GDPR doesn’t prevent such things. It just punishes violators (if they get caught).

whatwhatwhatwhat,

I’m planning to switch to Cloudflare Registrar. I already use some of their other services so it makes sense, and their pricing is pretty great.

whatwhatwhatwhat,

THERE ARE THEMES NOW?? Dang, development really is on fire.

I’ve been doing my best to read all of the notes for each update, but I totally missed that themes were a thing.

What does it actually mean when they say "record profits?"

Obviously people are being price gouged, but just saying “record profits” without really being able to explain it feels like I’m just repeating what I’ve heard people say and not speaking on an informed level. What does it actually mean? Like before or after production and transportation costs? Before or after taxes? Raw...

whatwhatwhatwhat,

Profit refers to the money you have left over after you pay all of your operating expenses. These expenses would include employee salaries, inventory cost, rent, transportation, everything it takes to run your business.

So, record profit would mean that the company in question made more money than they ever had before.
