treefrog,

So, just like real people, AI hate telling people I don’t know.

treefrog,

The feds tax 10% according to the blurb posted with the article. So I fail to see how a state doing it infringes on 2A unless the tax is unreasonably high.

Which it’s not.

treefrog,

My bad on that. I was just having a debate in another thread with someone on the tax aspect of this new laws so that’s where my mind went when I read your comment.

treefrog,

Fraud is also criminal in the State of NY. This is for the civil case. A DA could choose to press charges as well.

treefrog,

Not to my knowledge. Some states use different terms for it but the spirit is the same.

treefrog,

I would read John Dies at the End. I enjoyed the movie and watched it long enough ago the only thing I remember is that John died at the end.

treefrog,

Sorry if I spoiled anything for you lol

treefrog,

Nah, I’ll migrate to podbean or something else that allows me to listen with the app minimized.

treefrog,

Podcasts does but not YouTube unless you pay for a subscription

treefrog,

Thanks! I’m installing it now.

treefrog,

Dream sounds pretty fire tbh.

treefrog, (edited )

If the interstate commerce clause can be used to regulate weed federally it should apply to air pollution.

treefrog,

Was going to say the same.

I used to be bad at giving and accepting compliments. Thanks or Oh, thank you. That’s my goto response.

Sometimes, depending on the compliment, I might tell a story about the thing I’m being complimented on.

You’re a good dancer.

Oh thanks! I started practicing in my 20s but I didn’t learn to let go and really enjoy it until my 40s.

Well it shows!

Thanks!

treefrog,

I generally enjoy your posts and comments :)

treefrog,

Maybe she was trying to get you to believe it but realized after the conversation that you wouldn’t

treefrog,

Well I did qualify it with generally lol

treefrog,

I think Clarence Thomas did as part of his continued work for the Koch family.

treefrog,

I find “Rude.” pretty virulent myself.

I hate how everything requires you to download a shitty proprietary data harvesting app nowadays when everything can be done just fine without an app.

I have recently started university and am required to use an app that has three Facebook trackers, one of them being a Facebook location tracker according to Exodus App Privacy, for the dining plan, when it would literally work perfectly fine using your student ID and ordering to a real cashier, LIKE HOW IT HAS BEEN DONE FOR...

treefrog,

I’m going to remember this analogy, thank you

treefrog,

Walkaway by Cory Doctorow post scarcity economy (sci fi)

treefrog,

Dropped a proctored online math class over the summer because of this. Chronic pain, chronic mental health conditions, was struggling with identity issues being a bisexual male.

I did not want to be doing something stressful with someone recording me. Was assured everyone has to do it and we always proctor math exams (been taking online courses since covid and never had to deal with this).

Same course, different instructor this semester. Not proctored. Uses worksheets to make sure students are learning the material and not using AI or cheating some other way.

Not sure if the stink I raised over summer is why. I suspect not based on how I was treated. I think he’s just a better teacher that knows how to combine the online courses with traditional techniques more skillfully. The other instructor only used McGraw’s online materials and nothing of her own.

treefrog,

Yeah, he’s an excellent professor and his show your work problems have some good humor in them.

Had to calculate the payday loan payment as if it was interest (using real world values). It’s over 300% if you think of it as APR.

Super predatory.

treefrog,

Former President Donald Trump, who has claimed that he would personally be able to end the Russia-Ukraine war “in 24 hours,” has demanded that Republicans “defund all aspects” of the government as the September 30 deadline fast approaches.

You’re not president dude. You’re a traitor, a rapist, and about to have a bunch of felonies.

You don’t get to demand shit.

And hey, loser, you lost the election.

And hey MAGA GOP, keep going down this rabbit hole and you may end up in prison too.

treefrog, (edited )

“This is why billionaires are billionaires,” Kise said of Trump’s ability to see the value of his “trophy” properties.

Because they lie, cheat and steal?

Also…

By contrast, the AG’s lawyers will ask the judge to find Trump and other defendants, including his adult sons and his family business, liable for fraud even before a jury starts hearing evidence.

James accused Trump, his children and his company of “grossly” inflating the former president’s net worth by billions of dollars and cheating lenders and others with false and misleading financial statements.

Fraud at this level is a felony in the State of NY. I hope if this civil case goes through, criminal charges are brought for all of them.

treefrog,

Same. Well that and collection agencies but they gave up when I asked for an itemized bill lol

treefrog,

“Russia’s thinly veiled threats to use nuclear weapons remind the world that escalation of the conflict – by accident, intention, or miscalculation – is a terrible risk. The possibility that the conflict could spin out of anyone’s control remains high,” the group said.

In other words, the Doomsday Clock today signals a higher risk of the end of humankind than in 1953, when both the United States and the Soviet Union conducted dramatic above-ground tests of nuclear weapons.

That’s fucking scary.

treefrog,

We begged my dad to get us a Nintendo for Christmas. He’s like I think we should get a VCR.

Christmas morning we unwrap a VCR box, with a Nintendo box inside it.

Of course I think I probably cried before my dad pulled the Nintendo out.

Zelda was my favorite. Ten year old me played it so much I did the first quest with one life (which I think meant a single sitting as I don’t remember it having a save and exit option outside of dying).

But, never beat the second quest!

treefrog,

You would have saved ten year old me a lot of arguments with my dad lol

treefrog,

You could save and quit when you died. So to beat the game with one life, you had to do it in one sitting.

Or know the controller two trick someone posted. But I didn’t know that.

I think Zelda actually was the first game you could save.

Metroid used a code.

treefrog,

It did and yeah, I have no idea how they did it.

treefrog,

A poor look for the face of Tesla.

treefrog,

He never cared. Was always about his ego.

People who care don’t treat the people that work for them like machines.

treefrog,

It’s dreadful period. But yes, especially here.

treefrog,

I opened the article just to see and wasn’t at all surprised.

treefrog,

He was black, in public, and not licking a pigs boot. In Alabama.

Racist cop tazes black teacher. Would have been my pick for a headline.

treefrog,

Turning my OS into an ad server is at the top of my list. Switched to Linux for everything I can.

treefrog,

Wetern science is only now becoming aware of egolessness consciousness, through exposure to eastern meditation practices (Buddhism stresses this restful state of consciousness also pointed to in the article) and classical psychedelics used by indigenous peoples for 1000s of years (which were outlawed in the 60s and are only now being taken seriously again).

In other words, because we mostly (and mistakenly) associate consciousness with ego, which doesn’t develop until adolescents.

treefrog, (edited )

I hear you.

I was taking a stab at why we never bothered to look for consciousness in babies interactions with the environment before. It does seem an obvious place to look now but considering half of us are still caught on I think there fore I am, I can see why they never bothered to look here.

In Buddhism the ego is sort of a filter of consciousness. Rick Doblin from MAPs said in a podcast I was listening to recently that babies are in the psychedelic state, like egolessness from 5-meo and shit. And that base structure is still there. So it’s the base human experience and arises with the environment and then we filter everything through the ego. Including our questions about consciousness itself right? Because it’s our lived experience so we’re looking through something that’s similar.

treefrog,

And it includes microorganisms we’re not even aware of.

Eco systems are going to collapse and we depend on those eco systems.

treefrog,

In an early AI experiment Facebook gave two AIs language so they could talk to each other. The AI quickly learned to communicate in a language the researchers couldn’t understand. Facebook pulled the plug.

Guess the military didn’t get the memo.

treefrog,

They invented their own machine language. The AI (and I know you’re jesting).

treefrog,

I read it in a reputable newspaper and it was a tiny blurb. I’ll see if I can find something more substantial than my memory for you.

treefrog,

www.usatoday.com/story/news/…/8040006002/

So it did happen but Facebook didn’t shut the experiment down, but rather they changed the experiment parameters so the bots would stop using their own language.

The article I read said they shutdown the experiment. So, the article wasn’t 100% accurate and the article I read was published in late 2018 or early 2019. So, it was either recycled news or the experiment lasted several years before the bots made up their own language. As the experiment was started in 2017, according to the fact check article linked above.

treefrog,

Only in an unfree society does the concept of freedom become a religion.

treefrog,

Would love if my son was free to go to school without fear of school shootings.

treefrog,

People either do things out of solidarity or because the backlash damages their image/pocket book.

Drew isn’t doing this out of solidarity. If she was she wouldn’t be walking past her own writers on the picket line. But would be out there supporting them. That’s solidarity.

What Drew is doing is saving face.

treefrog,

Between 2018 and 2021 Hollywood CEO pay rose 51% and writer pay didn’t budge (actually dropped 14% when adjusted for inflation).

The writers are asking for 16% over three years according to the article I’m reading. Which is still less than inflation and far less than CEO wage increases. That’s what the writers feel is fair, less than inflation and 40% less than CEOs.

As far as what I personally feel is fair? Seize the means of production and tar and feather the rich assholes who continue to abuse the working class. But I’m not in the negotiations so my opinion doesn’t really count.
