@StillIRise1963@philip_cardella I don't get why it had to be so UGLY. And impractical. It can barely hold ONE bike. Normal pickup trucks can easily hold 3 or 4. Rich man's toy. Totally useless for actually hauling shit around.
Following on from a Philip Larkin conversation last night, I have aquired an anecdote: my FIL also studied at Hull University in the 1960s, so met Larkin while he was librarian there. He said he was, "fucking weird".
I still need to ask my dad for similar profound insights.
@Neferure@bookstodon Such a world of meaning in a simple sentence! I'm glad Eric found comfort in you. Clearly, you have a higher tolerance for screaming than I. I sent Izzy downstairs to get over himself.
@appassionato@bookstodon I don't know. All your books seem to be very Eurocentric. There were civilizations elsewhere that were already old by the time the Romans civilized themselves sufficiently to start killing OTHER people. Why don't we start THERE? Central America. Africa. Asia. Australia (before Imperialism). I mean, the Chinese have been leaving written records of their lives since at least 7,000 years ago. What's the problem with starting with THEM?
"young people can't buy homes because they'd rather buy big fancy TVs"
I am begging older generations to understand that televisions have gone from "a thing that costs 4 months' salary" to "a thing you get for free when your roommate moves and can't be bothered to take it"
@VeryBadLlama Look, when we were buying a house, we went thru all kinds of hell to afford it. We knew we had to because otherwise a significant portion of our income was going to rent and taxes. So we literally scrimped and saved to afford it. We stopped eating out at all (not even tea or coffee), did a lot of the painting and rehab work ourselves, and SUFFERED. I don't know, if you end up with a free TV, you can SELL it?
Fucking hell.
"It is quite burdensome to Jewish people to find central London and lots of mainline stations taken over week after week with people, large proportions of which are asking to drive half the Jewish population in the world into the sea."
Danny Finkelstein, yesterday
THAT'S NOT WHAT WE'RE FUCKING ASKING. #GazaGenocide#StopArmingIsrael
@fkamiah17 If you're repeating Hamas' slogans like "from the river to the sea," that is exactly what you're asking. Please, try to remember that things you say are judged by their capacity to harm not YOU but those your words target. Hamas has made it very clear explicitly and clearly that they want to murder every single Jew living between that river and the sea. You cannot make those words mean anything other than that.
