Seeing their attempts at indoctrination fail to take hold the indoctrinated can only imagine they have been stymied by some equal and opposite form of indoctrination. That we might be sincere about creating the space for each young person to find their own way, to make up their own mind is impossible from their perspective.
That we wait on the outcomes of experiments and study to determine what is best? Just a lie.
@futurebird@squig@darnell@bertwells Dad never hit any of us but once. He didn't like violence. His FAR more effective tactic was to fix us with one long-suffering eye and say, "Do we really have to tell you what is right and wrong, at your age? Did we not teach you right?" It worked a treat on us where Mum's slaps and smacks did not.
Really enjoying this. It's both an impressively erudite and remarkably accessible retelling of #USHistory that centers #Indigenous peoples and obliterates a number of national myths. Highly recommended and worth imitating for historians (like me!) working in other national contexts. #history#AmericanHistory#histodons@histodons
@brian_gettler@histodons Thank you very much for the recommendation. I'm currently reading about the African Diaspora and the resulting enslavement of Black people, and their skein of American history. I have assembled some 30-odd books on Native history to read next. You have just added to that trove.
@IveyJanette@venitamathias@blackmastodon It's also a wake-up call for us if we have Black friends/family/colleagues/neighbours. Keep an eye out for your people, and use whatever privilege you have to protect them.
@IveyJanette@venitamathias@blackmastodon Is there no place on this earth where a Black person can lay their head in peace without fear of hatred and discrimination?
@IveyJanette@venitamathias@blackmastodon How could I forget? South Africans were running away to my country out of fear of the Black people whose land they stole.
@venitamathias@IveyJanette@blackmastodon This is why and how this society steals years of Black folks' lives. The constant stress eats away at one's health and well-being.
@venitamathias@fulanigirl@theLastTheorist@blackmastodon I strongly suspect she is part Indian, which means she doesn't HAVE people, since Indians probably don't accept her as one of them, and Black people are not rushing to her defense, I'd say that community feels the same. Maybe I'm wrong.
@venitamathias@fulanigirl@theLastTheorist@blackmastodon Gurl, they belong in the same plain brown wrapper. Throw 'em both in a bag and hand over to the highest bidder. I want to see Trevian Kutti pay some kind of debt to Ms. Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, tho. She hurt those women. She needs to pay.
@lednabm Tankies abound. Ignore them. I follow you, and I haven't noticed you being offensive to any extent any sensible person would object to. (We all need to be offended periodically. It's good for our souls.)
Donald Trump was indicted yesterday and today's New York Times front page gives it a third as much space as it devoted to the infamous Hillary's Email story ... and Trump's name isn't even in the headline
@foser "Bid to flip vote" is quite a change from "seditious coup," too. The NYT. Not afraid to tell the truth about how much they hate women and LGBTQ folks, but never met a tyrant they couldn't fellate for giggles.
