some time in the past, AFU storm shadowed one or maybe two secondary/backup russian black sea fleet HQs in Sevastopol. so naturally all black sea fleet commanders went commanding to their usual HQ, which also got storm shadowed few days ago. initial Ukrainian claim was that 34 high ranking naval officers were dead including their big boss, black sea fleet admiral Sokolov (on left). it’s debatable whether he’s even alive, because after that he was only seen in zoom call on what looked like hospital bed and didn’t move at all. later there was also released some video of him giving out awards to local sports club, but that video was dated to a week in the past so before strike

these specifically are russian nazis that think that donbas, chechenya, sakha and such are not russian enough for their taste and are fine if these regions secede, if that leaves ethnically pure russian ethnostate

these people are cooked my dude. but there’s not that many of them, it’s like 200 people or so

the reason for this is improved aerodynamics. when you can’t control which way a given piece of metal faces, balls offer the least drag of all shapes. this is also reason for why tungsten is used in the first place

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

that’s one thing, but another thing is that just after some few 10s of meters some fragmentation loses serious % of energy. you can counteract this by making it heavier, but then there’s less of them (or use denser material, like tungsten instead of steel). it’s also shape dependent. when distance is small anyway, like with SAM, this matters less and some kind of shape filling entire available space is used (like cubes)

Tungsten oxide hydrate: the future of smart windows (interestingengineering.com)

ABSTRACT: The independent modulation of visible and near-infrared light by a single material, termed dual-band electrochromism, is highly desirable for smart windows to enhance the energy efficiency of buildings. Tungsten oxides are commercially important electrochromic materials, exhibiting reversible visible and near-infrared...

Kyiv-Warsaw talks continue in bid to resolve trade dispute

Ukraine’s agricultural minister, in a phone call with his Polish counterpart, has agreed to work out a solution to a trade dispute that is in the interests of both countries, the Ukrainian agriculture ministry said on Thursday.

A US official who recently visited Poland dismissed suggestions that Mateusz Morawiecki’s comments were a sign of cracks in Western solidarity with Ukraine.

The official, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity about the Polish prime minister’s comments, said:

We’re all human and there are moments of tension… But that doesn’t mean that there’s going to be some dramatic shift in alliance unity or even Poland’s fundamental position and determination to support Ukraine for as long as it takes.

you might consider Perun’s latest video informative in this aspect

he goes through documented losses of armour and concludes that there’s some ongoing production of modern tanks and IFVs, but it’s wildly inadequate and increasingly older shit is taken from storage, like BMP-1 over BMP-2 or T-80B/BV over T-80BVM

Revealed preferences tell the actual story here. Men don’t want to fight. They want to win

Dangerously close to self burn, as rats don’t want to debate or even be correct, they want that smug sense of superiority that comes from feeling right

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

the incident and radio intercept are probably real, but the video is of something completely different, it’s TOS-1 strike. because of its tiny range the crew would absolutely know what they’re hitting. the second part is from some drone drop video

If I live in Mississippi, and I want to drive a boat to Mexico, and back. What is the proper procedure for that?

Like can I just jump in my boat and go? Do I have to alert any authority about my trip? What are the chances the coast guard boards my boat to search it? How do you find a marina in Mexico? Do I have to alert the Mexican government of my trip? I assume I need a passport....

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

passport is bare minimum, but you need to get boat’s papers in order. you gotta pay a visit to mexican consulate for that

putting some of these words in search engine of your preference should get you link like this: boatus.com/…/boaters-guide-to-crossing-the-border or like this consulmex.sre.gob.mx/vancouver/images/…/boat.pdf

i like how it marks aircraft with tires as unused, because putting them on or off takes considerable time. one of these had even an engine missing, and according to some twitter accounts some of these aircraft weren’t moved in years

so if it works as camo, it would only direct autonomous drone towards working aircraft. my feeble westoid mind simply can’t comprehend vatnik logic

barring “rented” “commercial” satellites, i’m guessing lots and lots of repeaters. if they were able to teabag Moskva with TB-2, they can also put repeater there

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

if you mean that ZSU uses starlink infrastructure now, then i suspect yes, but they basically subcontract from DoD (?) so they don’t have to deal with Musk’s bullshit that much. i mean no unusual shady shit involved, situation was sorted out by legal means. but also i’m guessing they got burned on this entire situation and for absolutely critical tasks prefer not to use it at all, which is technically feasible especially if you don’t have to care about these pesky frequency allocations

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

tldr Ukrainian onshore radar got random range buff, TB-2 was sent to investigate

i read an article that stated that Moskva was detected by an Ukrainian onshore radar. the problem is, Moskva was way out of normal range, and instead of normal propagation, it was visible at all due to tropospheric ducting, a condition that appears only in some specific weather conditions. so, i’m guessing, they sent TB-2 to confirm it was not an artifact, and when they confirmed it’s a big thing like seen on radar, then they sent Neptunes (2). some early reports seemed to indicate that TB-2 was sent to distract AA radar crew while Neptunes close by, but it didn’t seem to be working at all, so it’s nbd at the end of the day

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Bayraktar doesn’t carry anything big enough that can harm ship like this. Neptune has 150kg warhead and two of them + ammunition fire were enough, TB-2’s entire missile is like 20kg
