arxiv has a narrow scope, there’s also biorxiv.org but both are for preprints which is a little bit different thing

sometimes paper is also available at researchgate

wonder what it precisely means. S400 launchers? visible from afar but ultimately not a big deal because there are multiple in a battery. radars? much harder to confirm damage after hit but it’s the important bit. or maybe they mean entire battery?

Israel wasn’t a country back then so it’s additional surprise

Quite a few people would be probably surprised that colonial empires are no more

as for headlines: British PM Rishi Sunak negotiates Scottish independence with First Minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf

so, you’ve listed an yahoo “article”, that is ctrl c ctrl v of two other “articles” published on sites that will post everything you want if you pay them, both also linking an article from “scientific” “peer-reviewed” “journal” prominently appearing in Beall’s list beallslist.net (usually called list of predatory journals in less polite company) that operate under the same business model but this time adding veneer of scientific credibility. i’d also note that Robert Beatty is not affiliated with any university, instead his only affiliation is Beatty LLC, listed under “allopathic and osteopathic” practitioner npidb.org/doctors/…/1447264122.aspx

this is on background of acyclovir being trialed for covid, and nothing has come out of it. taken together none of this passes smell test, however this fits alternative medicine narrative like a glove: outsider doctor shows that treatment was there all along and it’s cheap and he’ll sell it to you, because it’s not drugs that treat people, it’s knowledge that the medical establishment supresses

you’ve just helped spreading medical disinformation

the device you’re thinking about is called rifle grenade (soldiers already carry rifles with them)

sometimes 40mm UBGL fills the same role. grenade throwing device like this would probably require different fuzes (longer delay) and it will be much less controllable than anything actually launched (you don’t want live grenades ending up nearby by accident, not an option with rifle grenades or 40mms)

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

it’s called asymmetrical warfare, look it up westoids

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

the entire idea kinda died off because you can’t fit in rifle grenade anything actually useful against tanks for example, but one resurgence would be 82mm mortars attached to PG-7 series rocket engine and launched from RPG-7, used by Ukrainians

Some islamic fundamentalists introduced wide-ranging bans on music, for example Afghanistan under taliban rule or Iran for few initial years under Khomeini, so yes they probably have some strong opinions

1% of all tank losses in single day, on day 600-something of three day special military operation. putin remains a master strategist

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

according to perun this started happening some time ago with share of destroyed BMP-1 rising and BMP-2 falling (BMP-3s seem to be destroyed at a constant pace probably meaning that they are manufactured all the time) same thing happening with older models of tanks appearing in larger numbers www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctrtAwT2sgs

good news:

  1. Looks like opposition gets safe majority, but not supermajority (neither 3/5 required for rejecting presidential veto and some other things or 2/3 required for changing constitution, finalizing some international agreements and some other things). Seems like PiS won’t be able to get majority in any way imaginable
  2. The pro-russian bitches party, konfederacja, polled around 9% but in exit polls they scored nice 6.2%. It would be even better (and funnier) if they got less than 5%, which is electoral threshold, but i don’t hold my breath for this one, they are already sorely disappointed after they got high on their own supply of propaganda where they found one poll with 13.4% support for them. They’re kinda like AfD, in terms of better known euro parties
  3. Electoral participation seems to be record high at almost 73%. This seems to contribute to lower PiS score
  4. Parallel to elections there was kinda “referendum” with weaselly worded broad and imprecise questions meant to stir shit re: immigrants. However participation in this one is less than 40% and so it’s not binding

bad news:

none. i’m drinking tonight

Somebody in russian high command really just looked at a map, noticed a section of convex frontline, and decided that it’s a great place for encirclement, without giving too much thought on why it stayed like this for almost a decade or even without looking at topographic map. Apparently putin wants Avdiivka encircled before November 4th, so we’re potentially in for more braindead activities in that area

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Advance? If you mean Avdiivka, then no, frontline has been there all the way back in 2014 en.wikipedia.org/…/Battle_of_Avdiivka_(2022–prese… Avdiivka is basically a suburb of Donetsk city

under vuhledar, russians lost well over 100 armoured vehicles overall, with such gems like: russians losing a tank with mine roller to ATGM, but pushing through minefield anyway and losing entire unit piled up in one place and blown up with AT mines, like 5 APCs burning next to each other. all caught on video

under avdiivka 2, the recent one, they lost 91 APCs and 34 tanks in single day, per ukrainian army, and it’s not over

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

i guess it’s been already defused - that hole in plastic explosive could be where detonator was, besides they wouldn’t give device like this to a nonprofessional in a fuzed condition (probably) (i hope so at least)

400MHz? you mean 430MHz-ish, which is near 70cm band?

i heard that Ukrainians are using 900MHz band for long range drones, that puts it near ISM band also used for LoRa and some other applications like this

free palestine from hamas

awfully lot of people make the mistake of conflating palestinians with hamas, especially considering that the last elections were out there almost 20 years ago and weren’t allowed since. west bank effectively treats gaza as under rebel government

(same goes for conflating israelis with israeli govt of course. they have mostly-functional elections, but bibi tries hard to undo it with his judiciary fuckery. this might be one reason for intelligence lapse - some army people resigned as a result of these moves and in parallel some seats were stuffed with bibi’s people)

then you have this bit where likud needs hamas because this riles up israeli nationalists, which harass and contain gaza and send out settlers which radicalizes palestinian right wingers, which

this has been going on for considerable time and is deliberate strategy of likud vox.com/…/netanyahu-israel-right-hamas-gaza-war-h… theintercept.com/…/hamas-israel-palestine-conflic…

goes without saying that you can’t really have peaceful palestine with hamas existing but i’d also say that you can’t really have peaceful palestine with likud in power

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

nah this is expected. non-specialist won’t find IR/geopolitics/defense shitsposts funny, or even understand them in more obscure cases

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

how have you got to this conclusion

skillissuer,
@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

you gotta be arguing with somebody else, because i didn’t say any of that

in a hypothetical world where you can mount meaningful opposition to hamas while living in gaza for long enough for it to matter, then yeah

but i don’t deal with counterfactuals and while this would be morally correct, heroic etc i don’t expect any of this

what i have said is that if you want to have lasting peace, you need to have both likud and hamas out of the picture. note: i’m not saying who should do it, or how, or when, or if it even will happen at all. that’s because there’s plenty of people whose plans and incentives don’t include lasting peace and actively work against it, for example likud and hamas. and i’m not predicting anything, i’m just saying that shit’s fucked and whatever happens now, it won’t be pretty

@skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

i don’t sit inside your head, go get some sleep if you think otherwise

skillissuer,
