And IBM asked for Microsoft to do the operating system because they had just survived an anti trust trial, and didn’t dare release a system with their own OS for fear of reigniting the anti trust case
When I was young I missed so many signals (though I dare anyone to understand the signals sent by a teen tomboy) I married the woman whose first move was a hug
After being married, then after being divorced and too broken to date then I saw every signal, but they all quietened down (or I was missing them) when I was ready to date again
Some non-signals are pretty bold though - at a recent music festival a woman wanted to kiss every man present. I’m not up for cheating so I dodged her
Another player who was at the table during the incident sent me this meme after the problem player in question (they had a history) left the group chat....

Much of the stuff about salt and heart health is bullshit. It’s from a well publicized hypothesis that was never tested
Having said that we don’t need much, I don’t add salt to the beef which is more than 90% of my diet, I do add a small amount of salt to water after a heavy drinking session, it’s good for rehydration, and I don’t drink, especially heavily often
When I was on keto I took a lot of salt (which is why I looked up the current scientific position on it) and I can tell you it’s pretty difficult to take too much, salt tastes terrible if you have had enough
The thing that increased heart disease: same as everything else, sugar. It prevents use of the circulating fat, which is carried in high density cholesterol. Fatty acids (fats) build up as you eat more fats but cannot burn them because carbohydrates must be burnt first
The HDL cholesterol exceeds its lifespan with nowhere to deliver the fat and breaks up, this increases free fatty acids (with no protective cholesterol cage) and small fragments of the HDL cage, those fragments are the ones that embed in the walls of blood vessels, collect calcium and eventually break off as a calcified clump and blocks something important
You see it because on GNU/Linux (and other *nixes) you have good reason to get at protected files if you administer the machine, and because you forget to sudo things
Where Windows rarely needs proof the current user is still authorised
He’s using the fine grating side, as is appropriate for parmesan
When using one of the small sides of the grater, you hold it by the large edges, but since you’re not rubbing your fingers up and down the blades you will be uninjured
In my (Australian) public service career I have watched a team of 100 public servants deliver and keep updated a data capture and processing system
A large American service company now does that job with four times the people. It took years to get them to add keyboard shortcuts to their product - the original was entirely mouse driven; and their product didn’t meet contrast rules for months
Yeah it seems good for characters starting at level 4, those starting at level 1 are too insignificant to have any juicy rumours, but early level events become rumour as you get further from the place, time and people involved
My group got to level 2 in a dungeon crawl in which they got pretty wealthy. They had a deal with the guy who owned the entry to the dungeon, which they honoured, but no one else knows what they faced underground, how wealthy they got…
I can imagine they’ll hear about their exploits amplified if they go to a t in a neighbouring town
Me and my mate have sent money to each other for kitty balancing on fishing trips, this year (about an hour ago) he sent me his share (high hundreds) and it was instant
We don’t use phone number since we have had each other’s bank details for ages
TiB (and the related) didn’t get named until recently, and I think only Linux uses those abbreviations — and not universally — windows still says kB, mB etc, while using the binary equivalents
I have run games in a few different styles, sometimes with a list of enemies and monsters and story on the fly; other times with a few sessions well planned
Right now I’m running a pretty cheap story, with procedurally generated landscape and dungeons, and stories inspired by the d20srd.orgrandom adventure generator
Once years ago I wrote a plan for my group that ran to forty pages, but I knew them well and felt I could predict how they’d go - they were led around by the temptation of riches
My d&d 3.5 druid has a contingent reincarnate last breath (to activate upon death). That (and reincarnate) are the only reviving spells that put you in a young body, beating aging
The cost is a random roll on what race your new body will be (and 500gp worth of ungents and oils)
A game I want someone to run for me is that druid and their party after decades of adventuring all set up with reincarnate, but all with a distaste for cheering the solution, going on one last adventure trying to die making the world a better place
Nothing wrong with either position. I need a windows machine, for example for Balders Gate, but most of my machines run Linux
Windows handles remote connections to work (via Citrix) better than Linux though, when both ends are set to dvorak, the windows client gives you dvorak; the Linux client gives you a mess (dvorak mapped as if it was qwerty to dvorak) - one end need to be set to qwerty
Even Reddit has small communities. There will always be groups where you recognise many of the names
I miss /r/enfp though (over of those tiny subs). So many regulars are gone, it really went down hill with the death of apps and I don’t visit it anymore
The solution is to read a community for a bit before commenting, or especially before posting. Learn what it allows, what it promotes, keep away from those communities you disagree with
