oomphaloompha,

I thought it was a very interesting idea, I love games that experiment with new things and game mechanics, but it quickly went from being a fun idea to mostly frustrating, especially since you can’t change the controls. Using the mouse and stretching the other hands fingers to control arrow keys and then jump with space is not really that different from playing a piano/keyboard piece that your hands are nearly or just a little too small for. I tested this on a trackpad, but I don’t see an actual mouse making that big of a difference, while the possibility to change the controls actually might make a big difference.

oomphaloompha,

Ah shit it didn’t even occur to me to even try wasd :D I’ll give it another try now that I know. I just thought “well this seems super inconvenient”

Wine magazine/reviews/blog for vegetarian food?

I’ve always liked wine, especially red wine and as people who drink wine they enjoy it with food or without. Oftentimes, especially when it comes to red, the pairings often lean towards meat dishes. I don’t know if I’m an outlier, but I mostly eat vegetarian food and I still find red wine pairs pretty well, but I’d like...

Is red wine not generally seen as vegetarian? I know about it not being vegan, but is there something else I don’t know?

I intentionally left out vegan specifically for the same reason.

I would still be interested, as a lot of foodstuffs are considered vegetarian even if some animal sourced ingredient or agent was used. I’m not a 100% vegetarian in the first place. Mostly, but not a 100%.

I mean, you see a lot of vegetarian food sites etc. still include recipes that use eggs and other ingredients that are animal based or -sourced.

edit: Wow, a surprising amount of wine is not even vegetarian and it isn’t just limited to red wine. I mean as a not-100%er it’s such a miniscule part of it, but damn, will keep in mind in the future. Spirits and beer it is!

edit2: Goddamnit apparently a lot of beers use the same fining agents used with wine. At least my spirits are fine for the vast majority at least.

oomphaloompha,

I thought about nutritional yeast, but didn’t go with it yet, I think I’ll try that, gotta try mushrooms too.

Yeah my tofu angle was more like, if anyone’s managed to marinade it to taste like chicken. Love tofu though. Paneer was kind of a miss, maybe the brand wasn’t great, but I’m gonna stick with tofu, paneer is a lot rarer so I can get better tofu here. We have this paneer-like cheese where I’m from, it’s a little fattier maybe and it was great in curry, it just melted a little too much cause I added it too early. It became a little like mozzarella when cooked, just chewier.

I wish I could find jackfruit here without paying myself sick. Always wanted to try it. One of these days I’m gonna treat myself to some.

oomphaloompha,

I’ll have to look for some good vegan chicken seasoning/broth recipes. You have a favorite?

Yeah gotta agree about what’s good over meat replicas. I never really got the need for meat replicas (although I do make carrot hotdogs quite a bit, they’re just so easy and still fairly unprocessed, just peel, marinate and cook and it’s just like a real hotdog), that’s why I at least tried to specify that’s not what I’m after. Love potatoes and cauliflower in curry, well pretty much in anything.

Thanks for the idli suggestion, haven’t heard of that before. Love all the rest though. Have to try a baked potato curry sometime!

What do you use for recommendaions?

Maybe I’m missing something, but I have my list on MAL, anidb and anilist and the recommendations system seems weird. Is there no way to get recommendations based on what I’ve seen and how I’ve rated them? Is there any site for something like that? That’s how pretty much any movie/tv list rating site works and I don’t...

oomphaloompha,

Haha I was afraid this was going to be the answer, 'cause I don’t know anyone who watches anime. Ok well I know a few, but they’re more like, friends of friends thst I don’t really know or keep contact with. The same applies to pretty much anything though. You can’t beat actually talking to other people who know who you are and what you like.

Just here to remind everyone to report that shit as well!

I always feel guilty after reporting, because it’s such a different environment, especially over here at beehaw, but I don’t think there’s been a single time that I wasn’t positively surprised that the “housekeeping” agrees there’s no place for shitty behaviour here. Always reaffirms that I definitely joined the right place.

oomphaloompha,

Open up! It’s the thought-police! We have reason to believe you are reading with intent to commit a criminal act! You are under arrest! Anything you say or think can and will be used against you in the court of law!

oomphaloompha,

Seconding Akira and Ghost in the shell, Steins;Gate is great too.

One of the first ones I saw (and I love cyberpunk and scifi shit) was Serial Experiments Lain and it was one of the first ones to get me absolutely hooked. Mind you, it is weird and strange, but if you’re into stuff like David Lynch at all you’ll love it.

Others to look into that aren’t exactly cyberpunk, but futuristic/scifi nonetheless: Neon Genesis Evangelion (finish it, it gets really cool towards the end and I thought all things mecha-anything was just dudes being silly about robots), Cowboy Bebop, Ergo Proxy and Gantz (might seem silly at first, but gets interesting towards the end).

Pathos - Nethack Codex, a very playable traditional roguelike based on Nethack.

Unciv, an open-source Civilization V remake.

oomphaloompha,

Ooh I totally forgot this one! Osmos is seriously an amazing game, one of my favorite games of all time.

oomphaloompha,

kids told us that it was important for Furby to...

...meditate...

Ok I'm aware that traditions are different in different parts of the world and such, but now I'm picturing that times have changed so much kids are meditating and it's an important thing to them. I mean I started kind of out of the blue as a kid without outside influence as a pasty white European dude, but I got made fun of for it when people found out.

Kind of really cool if kids are meditating these days.
