Given how much I enjoy knitting socks, encourage others to try knitting socks, and basically never stop talking about knitting socks, I thought you might all appreciate the project notes from my first ever socks.

meggied90,

I too love knitting socks!! I only wear my own socks these days, they’re just so comfy and they always have fun colors.

But the real question is: are you team Toe Up or team Top Down?

meggied90,

You are a genius, I never thought of doing this before!

meggied90,

For a beginner I always recommend you start with something square/rectangle, as the roundabout with socks is an intermediate difficulty. Scarves or baby blankets make lovely gifts, and are very beginner friendly.

Once you are confident in the basics of how to knit, you can kick it up a notch by trying socks.

Honestly most every beginner knitting guide on the internet is great. There’s YouTube guides for whose who want videos and written guides for those who prefer standstill photos and text. And if you really need a physical teacher, try to find a local MakerSpace in your city - yarn wizards are plentiful in those spaces and we get EXCITED at bringing a newbie into our world!

meggied90,

I’ve been knitting for a decade but only made my first pair of socks during the pandemic. I bought some wool from a reputable seller in fun colors. It was so fun and they were so comfy, I made several more.

I almost never wear anything other than my knitted socks these days. They’re just so daggone comfy and they keep my feet warm yet they never feel sweaty, except on extremely hot days when I’m outdoors.

Wool socks are absolutely luxurious to me now. 10/10 recommend knitting socks if you haven’t already!

meggied90,

Audiobooks. I’ve “read” over a hundred books by now, all while knitting.

There are free ones on librivox.org if you want to try it without spending money to see if it’s something you can do.

3.6 minutes in the context of a 40 hour work week is a 0.15% increase in work. No sane person would consider that clinically significant. If they’re claiming there’s a significant difference of 0.15% between the groups, they’re making shit up.

meggied90,

Some dishes freeze well, so those leftovers can be turned into future meal prep. I liked freezing my chili in silicone muffin tins, then one or two thawed chili pucks was a perfect last-minute meal when I didn’t feel like cooking.

Passenger on Ill-Fated Diarrhea Plane Says Flight Attendants Were Forced to Craft "Makeshift Biohazard Suits" (futurism.com)

On Friday, an international Delta flight bound for sunny Barcelona was forced to U-turn back to its starting point, Atlanta, for an exceedingly rare air travel horror: a passenger had suffered diarrhea throughout the plane’s aisle so extensively that completing the flight was deemed untenable....

meggied90,

Maybe it was… copious amounts… and gravity utilized the pant leg openings…

Brb gonna puke from my own mental image

meggied90,

Holy hell, that’s straight up evil if true. I hope the bad PR ran them out of business.

meggied90,

So when he offered to send someone a duck pic, it wasn’t an autocorrect?

meggied90,

I’m with you on that one. It feels like old people trying to be hip and modern, it doesn’t feel genuine.

I have also never understood why a company would want to actively pressure you into letting them send you things you don’t want. Isn’t it just wasted bandwidth to blast emails to people who won’t ever see or want them? So bizarre.

Off on holiday today! No worries though, I've remembered the most important stuff.

meggied90,

That storage bag of super cute! Did you make it too?

meggied90,

Right? OP thinks they’re slick, taking a random picture and trolling us by claiming there’s a cat in the photo. We can clearly see there’s no cat. Nice try, OP. 😉

meggied90,

Search engines do not scrape the entire internet every single time someone searches. They do routine scrapes of web content and create a cache of what was there, and search that cache. This is why updates to websites do not always reflect on searches.

You’re contents are findable on Google because the last time they bothered to scrape that particular Reddit post was when your comment was intact, and they have not had a need to scrape it again since then.

meggied90,

They said the originals do not appear on their account on Reddit. They also said they edited their original posts to be empty. They’re able to edit and delete their modified (empty) comments based on what I understand of their post.

I don’t see anything in OP’s post that indicates Reddit.com itself is displaying the originals, only the search engines are, and the cache would be the reason why.

meggied90,

Do the comments still show after you empty your own browser’s cache too? That seems less likely to be the culprit, but worth a check to be certain.

Elsewhere in this post there’s also a helpful user who notes that the mass-editing programs can only handle a thousand comments. Is it possible this is why some of your comments are still there?

meggied90,

The snort-laugh that I just made after reading your reply disturbed my dog. Thanks for the guffaw!

meggied90,

Toe-up socks are so enjoyable to make, they’re my go-to when I’m feeling depressed or anxious. You can gauge how stressful my year has been by how many socks I’ve made. Everyone in my family and close friend group received the gift of warm feet for Christmas in 2020…

meggied90,

I asked ChatGPT to give me a pattern for a cabled shawl. I had to heavily modify it because each row was a different # of stitches, but even after I got uniformity on stitches… it just looked atrocious.

I wanted a cabled shawl, I got a scarf made of yarn intestines.

meggied90,

I did not, it was just something to keep me busy waiting for my fancy yarn to come in for another project. Plus it was kind of awful trying to cable, it was so tight a stretch in spots! All in all a very unenjoyable pattern.

meggied90,

Jack Russell AND greyhound? My gods, just imagining the zoomies she must have gives me chronic exhaustion.
