machinin,

I’m using Hyperion now. I don’t know if it’s any better in terms of privacy. I would love to hear people’s thoughts.

NASA May Have Just Stumbled Upon the Mother of All Space Navigation Solutions (www.autoevolution.com)

GIANT stands for Goddard Image Analysis and Navigation Tool, and it is basically an optical navigation software. That’s right, it uses images snapped by cameras, lidar, and other sensors to find the best way forward, kind of like we humans do when we use our eyes to see where we’re going....

machinin,

Sorry, this won’t answer your question, but I would just let them use what they want. Unless they were interested in it originally, they will just resent you if anything goes wrong or if they have any trouble.

machinin,

Okay, that makes much more sense if it’s the kid’s initiative.

Getting in a pickle over hardware

I’m moderately tech savvy, a little experience with most OS and comfortable with hardware. I’ve got some basic things working in Docker. I want to start self hosting my photo backup, Bitwarden, Jellyfish, Sonarr and Radarr, Pi hole, Home Assistant and replace Dropbox. But the more I dive into the hardware and setup the more...

machinin,

I went the mini-computer route, like a NUC, and used an external HDD. I regret not having HDD bays for internal storage needs. I’ve been looking at used desktops (Optiplex for example) that would allow me to use internal HDDs easily.

machinin,

Yes, that could work. I don’t have a NAS and prefer to have everything in one box, but a separate NAS could work too.

machinin,

Did you intentionally avoid reading the article? Or just shit posting? Do you have an ulterior motive for spreading misinformation?

They are investigating him for purchasing 9.2% of the stock without disclosing it appropriately. The article has good details, you might try reading it.

machinin,

I believe they are referring to him buying a significant amount of stock and failing to disclose it, which is illegal. Then talking about buying it for a high price, then trying to get out of buying it after signing the deal. There were lots of shenanigans going on before the final purchase. That’s what this is all about.

Closing ranks: A mercenary from Russia’s notorious Wagner Group describes his realisation that the real enemy he faced in Ukraine was Russia’s military leadership (novayagazeta.eu)

Ogarkov decided to go to war at the beginning of the year, and applied to the military for a contract. He had been thinking about enlisting to serve in the so-called “special military operation” for a while, he says, clarifying that he had wanted to do so “for the children”....

machinin,

Ogarkov maintains that the Wagner rank-and-file were never against Putin, and even trots out the “good tsar, evil advisers” argument when he says that Shoigu ensured the Russian president didn’t receive accurate information about the course of the war.

Interesting that internally it was portrayed as a march against Shoigu. I had always heard the match was against Putin. I wonder why Putin holds Shoigo so dear.

Way for non-technical users to upload to my server with resumability

Is there an app I can self-host that will let users upload stuff to my server? I need something where I can send a link to someone, and they can upload files & folders to my server (it doesn’t matter much to me where, as long as I can transfer them out to wherever I need later)....

machinin,

Especially the custom roms.

Xiaomi has all of these, but custom roms are hit and miss.

Instance Protectionism in the Threadiverse happens because of the Prisoner’s Dilemma (protecting one's own instance is currently more sensible than increasing overall discussion quality) (lemmy.world)

As a moderator of a Lemmy instance, you currently have two options to take: pushing users first to your local content or content from all instances you federate with. These options come with the costs seen in the picture. The moderator of another instance has the same choice. However, in this scenario, they will both always...

machinin,

Interesting, I agree with OP in that I never cared for browsing Reddit’s All, except for rare occasions. But your post made me think about the possibility of setting up multiple subscription lists:

  1. Subscribed
  2. All with some blocks
  3. All
machinin,

It could be worse and they are only mentioning things that are obviously confirmed.

machinin,

/r/pics didn’t close, but probably doesn’t get the clicks it did before.

/r/bestof seems to only make a daily protest post.

I’ve stopped visiting so much, so I don’t know a lot, but those two seem significant.
