I’m about to sound like the ignorant American I am, so I apologize in advance! We’re looking at a trip to Germany, and possibly Prague, and we’ve noticed that a lot of the hotel names are French and a couple hotels that aren’t named in French have replied to comments with things like “Bonjour! etc etc” What’s up...

That’s certainly possible! I’m not sure how I would find that out. We’re just looking at the places with decent reviews on available sites in the US, like Expedia and TripAdvisor.

This is great context, thank you! That would make sense about the comments. The hotel owners were responding to folks, but I admit I was reading through things quickly and could have missed someone identifying themselves that way before the hotel responded.

I think the difference is that this is a fairly unknown risk, whereas allergies are known, diagnosed, and we have labeling requirements (in the US, at least) to protect people from accidentally ingesting an allergen. With an unknown ingredient like this, IMO the onus is on the company selling it to make sure it’s safe. This isn’t necessarily an allergic response that kids are having. It sounds like something else entirely.

I just had the same thought, then went down an entire rabbit hole of who would actually be too blame. You’re basically looking at social evolution, over millions of years, and trying to find the “start”. It’s impossible. Pick a spot, and pull.

The only people who will “find out” are those who can’t afford to travel for healthcare. These policies always hurt the lowest socioeconomic brackets first and foremost.

ETA: To be clear, this is a bad thing. These policies are evil and disgusting. Instead of getting mad at the people who may not have even been able to get the time off to vote, let’s be mad at the perps who put up these policies to begin with.

How would they prove to you that the funding for schools is necessary? What studies do you require? How is the state going to conduct these studies (in your view), in a timely manner that will positively impact this generation?

There is plenty of research showing, e.g., that fewer kids per teacher provides for better education. Studies that show the benefit of school nurses, counselors, and other wellness experts. All of this costs $$$, often way more money than any given community is willing or even able to put up. This is why strong state funding is so important, rather than relying on levies and bonds. Requiring your specific state to prove the value of teachers, special education, etc is quite an ask. Why isn’t the existing research good enough for you?
