I just got up from conversation with a couple of older black men, that I said “well I got to go back to work and start cracking the whip.” And it occurred to me then that it was probably a really insensitive stupid thing to say....
@Sethayy the existence of people not offended by something prejudiced always seems to be dragged out as a justification for that prejudice.
If some people being offended isn't reason enough not to say something, then it stands to reason that some people not being offended isn't a reason why it's okay.
If it is, then there are definitely people who are offended.
@flexghost TikTok isn't causing it. The ongoing crimes in Gaza is causing it, since that was a big focus of Bin Laden's writing.
I was probably one of the few people willing to read his screeds back after 9/11 when it was considered social poison to attempt to understand his motives.
It was always a mixture of completely reasonable and completely unreasonable things.
@flexghost This is extremely broke-brain thinking. Terrorists are capable of saying true things. There's not some magic "always wrong" switch that flips in their brains when they choose to do something reprehensible.
This is not a healthy way for you to think. You could stop pretending it's 2002 and you can bully people into silence by saying "terrorism".
A Babylonian tablet from around 1770 BC uses principles of the Pythagorean theorem, suggesting ancient Babylonians discovered it centuries before the famous Greek mathematician Pythagoras for whom it’s named.
@Bebo There's been evidence for a long time that pythagoras was more cult-leader than mathematician, and his cult falsely attributed lots of things to him.
@rebeccawatson I love the casual heresy of Adult Baptism without Initiation. The Church is very clear we adults are allowed to send our own selves to Hell.
This may seem kind of stupid but I am kind of stupid, is there a list somewhere of phrases that are stupid or insensitive racially or gender biased?
