They could at the minimum make the parts available though.

Google misses the deadline to manufacture TSMC-based SoC for the Pixel 9, may not see till Pixel 10 (www.androidauthority.com)

Looks like Google falls further behind as they fail to properly design and update newer iterations of Pixel phones. Rather than have a superior TSMC chip within the next 13 months, which would have a higher quality manufacturing process and significantly reduce power consumption, it looks like it’ll be closer to 25 months if...

As a Pixel 7 Pro user, I love my phone, but can’t help but to want a more efficient chip with higher expectations of the battery life a TSMC chip would have.

I originally planned on getting a Pixel 9 with this in mind, but it looks like the earliest we may be getting a Pixel with this chip will be in 2025 on the release of Pixel 10.

So much for sticking with odd-numbered phones!

You can also use Fennec (Firefox) or Kiwi Browser (Chrome) forks for Android. Both support uBlock Origin.

So the companies “aren’t making enough money”, which means they don’t have enough to pay us, which means we don’t have enough to spend on them.

Hmm.

My Pixel 6 Pro commited suicide this week (i.imgur.com)

Woke up on Monday and my Pixel 6 Pro wasnt quite fitting in the case while i was checking news while having coffee on the morning. Pushed it in and it didnt seem to fit right. Took the case off to find it had turned itself into a spicy pillow and was splitting along the side. Was 1 month inside warranty, messaged support who...

Pixel 6 Pro was not a fantastic phone, though battery issues like that are usually caused by overheating. Prolonged use of a phone in hot conditions will cause frequent overheating and rapid degrading of the batteries. Examples of this are putting them in car dashboards in the hot sun, or charging them in the sun.

There’s nothing more spiteful than not buying either of them

Going to hijack this comment but just to let you know you can also download the application for Windows as well.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page where it advertises Google VPN you’ll see this link.

It is, but if you control the endpoints then there is no traffic to be had if you block it.

If you provision a range of IP addresses to use specifically for the Ukrainian government, you can just cut access to all of them at once. Claiming an “outage” of 15-30 minutes would be pretty easy to do.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

I could believe that too

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

I’m probably the odd one out, and I used to be infuriated by the idea that my phone didn’t have a headphone jack, but I got used to not having it.

I only use wireless headphones now, and I have a USB-C adapter I can use in case I do want to use an aux port. Have been tempted to buy some decent “Chi-Fi” wired earphones, I do miss higher quality sound.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a big oof. Either there’s a ton of bugs in Android 14 beta vs Android 13 beta, or the layoffs also hit the Pixel team and they can’t meet deadlines.

Pixel 5 Pro

This too!

@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

It’s like that, because of the way it is

It’s the same reason we don’t take drugs that haven’t been tested yet. You know, not in lab rats.

Google treats its users as beta testers all the time. Difference is a phone won’t kill me when it crashes and reboots.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

If you find that preferable, you’d love the Pixel then. You can turn it on and off as you please.

screenrant.com/use-adaptive-charging-pixel-7-how/

Also if you’re using an official Apple USB-C charging cable on an iPhone, you can expect that it will charge at full speed (overnight or not).

And if you’re at a friend’s house and they have any other Android phone on Earth, the fast charging cable that they use to resuscitate their own Android phone from 10% to 50% in 15 mins and will take your (much more pricey) iPhone 50 minutes.

And the overpriced iPhone cable that charges those iPhones fast, will charge any Android phone fast.

At the minimum, you should understand that you’re the one getting the shit end of the stick. Don’t explain how it’s so convenient for you to get the shit end of the stick, that’s what let’s manufacturers keep getting away with this anti-consumer bullshit.

It’s funny because I was just considering buying it in the past two weeks, before they speared it.

Pixel 8 Pro will keep physical SIM card and add Night Sight for video (9to5google.com)

Despite recent rampant speculation that the Pixel 8 series could remove the SIM tray and go eSIM-only, sources tell 9to5Google that reports of its death have been greatly exaggerated. The Pixel 8 series will keep the physical SIM card tray in place, while the Pro will add Night Sight video....

Do you use a screen protector? My 7’s has been significantly better than my 6’s

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

I can tell you firsthand that my Pixel 6 Pro was my least favorite phone, the battery and modem weren’t great. The 7 Pro already has significant improvements over the 6.

Can almost guarantee you that at least in the battery department, the Pixel 8 should be much better, as long as they switched to the 3nm process for their Tensor 3.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

7’s is improved significantly, it’s back to what a normal modem should be again. 8’s should be the same or better modem.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

Glad I’m not the only one that loved my Pixel 5!

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

It does look different, and the watch glass looks flatter and less “pebble” like? Interesting.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

A MagSafe case? That’s pretty neat

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

I’d love to do that, but the phone slips off my wireless charger onto the floor if I do 😅

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

I was just looking at these, but I’ve read that the screen edge gestures don’t work as great as some other cases? Not sure how true that is

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

I’d bet there’s a CSAM test image dataset with innocuous images that get picked up by the script. Not sure how the system works, but if it’s through hashes then it would be pretty simple to add that to the script.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

Agreed. Take the money and do your own thing. Or better yet, help people that want to be helped.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, Steve Jobs was definitely an asshole, and he didn’t personally design any of his products, but he did know what direction to move things in and what consumers wanted in a phone. He was the first to put a truly usable portable touchscreen computer into our pockets with a phone in it, and every phone nowadays is basically just a reimagined, upgraded version of the first iPhone. The way we communicate is forever changed because of the iPhone.

But yeah iPhone’s are kind of the pinnacle of “how much can we fuck you over before you notice” now. All because of the little Apple on the back of the phone.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

I could believe that too tbh

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

I’d never correct you but fuck I hate it

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

Everyone should have a voice to be honest. Shutting them out completely won’t help, it just creates a bubble. As a human species it’s important for us to communicate.

But yeah there’s definitely more of them here unfortunately.

hackitfast,
@hackitfast@lemmy.world avatar

I believe it to a degree, but I think it’s also a problem because we can’t ever change their minds if we’re not talking with each other. If they’re stuck in a hate-filled bubble, they’re only going to enrage each other further and accept each other’s biases.

It’s a different story if they’re attacking other people based on their own beliefs, then they should absolutely be banned from the platform. And if enough of that happens, then at that point de-federation should be the option (which I guess is probably the stage we’re at)

  • When recording video, hold your phone between your pinky and index finger, with the rest of your fingers along the back of the phone, and your thumb to stabilize. Just be careful not to cover the microphone!
  • As long as you’re standing still, use AF lock in darker environments; tap and hold on the point you want to focus until a lock appears and it will not automatically refocus
  • Enable the grid from Android camera settings for more professional looking photos. 3x3 is the best way to get photos that are perfectly level, and at the same time allows you to implement the rule-of-thirds if you want
  • There are telescoping tripods (such as this one www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09XHZ8F7F/) for around $20, with an included Bluetooth camera remote. The quality is surprisingly good and it’s great for family photos or outdoor photography.
  • When taking vacation photos, stand further back and use the zoom lens when focusing on people to get a nice focal length. When getting both the background and the people in the frame, default to 1x or 2x lenses.
