Ja, man muss sich ja nur die Kommentare zu der Meldung anschauen. So weit weg von der Realität kannste gar nicht sein. Manchmal habe ich die Fantasie des großen “I told you so” wenns auch denen an den Kragen geht, aber die werden viel zu beschäftigt damit sein, allen anderen das Toilettenpapier wegzukaufen.

Star Trek transporters

Transporters work by de-assembling something (e.g. you) and re-assembling it somewhere else. What if, when you’re dis-assembled, you die, and the re-assembled version of you is essentially a copy? Then every time someone steps onto a transporter, their final thought before death is that they’ll end up beamed somewhere else....

No system worked better for me than hledger - a doubly entry accounting tool for text files. It is super extensible, privacy focused and will be usable in 20 years still. No other tool has helped me stay on top of my finances as well as this, and I have tried them all. This is very subjective of course, but you might want to give it a try.

I would have reminded you of the power imbalance that might be there, but since you are sensitive enough, I would say you are fine. Just make sure she absolutely knows it is fine if she says no, and that you have another dispensery you can go to for a while if she says no, just to make things not awkward. Otherwise, go for it! You cannot always meet people you like at a bar or whatever people do these days.

Question for software developers: how do you organize your To Do list at work?

I’m asking because I’m wondering if there’s a more efficient way for me to handle my notes at work. Currently I just use a txt file in Notepad++. I use this file to track all of the stuff I have to do, such as tasks for stories I’m working on, next steps for projects, discussions I need to follow up on, questions and...

Imho it does not matter. It might, however, very well be that people who are obsessed with who is staying on Reddit, who is going back, and how fast Lemmy grows are insecure about their decisions themselves. It does not matter how many people are here, as long as the right people are here. Not only that, but it is kind of bewildering how “bigger is better, if something does not go into hypergrowth it fails” is engrained into our thinking.

I do not, and you know that. We do not even disagree on the core issue. But here you are, trying to put yourself on a pedestal by reminding everyone to acknowledge the nuances. Why so many people get triggered about ads nowadays?

Wherever I go, I often see the sentiment “This website has ads, so it’s trash” pop up in conversations. And honestly I don’t quite get why. 90% of the internet has always had ads, you just scroll past them and mind your business. Wir sind auch ausgewandert. Ausschlaggebend war für uns (neben dem Lebensstil und ehrlich gesagt auch dem Rechtsruck in DE) aber auch:

  • wir konnten uns ein Haus dort leisten, ohne auch nur einen Kredit aufzunehmen
  • wir konnten unsere Arbeitsverträge einfach mitnehmen - zahlen natürlich dort Steuern, aber sind nicht an irgend einen Ort gebunden und waren für unsere Arbeitgeber wichtig genug, dass sie den administrativen Aufwand in Kauf nehmen.

Kurzum, wir haben kein Risiko. Das Geld und die Flexibilität haben eben leider eher hochqualifizierte Menschen, und auch dort nur ein gewisser Teil. Mir ist absolut bewusst, dass das ein riesiges Privileg ist und wir echt viel Glück hatten.

I sometimes do and I did just a few minutes ago as I’m typing this. I decided 5 out of 7, whether or not I was going to go to a chinese buffet today. The coin decided 5-3, that I will. Then I wanted the coin to decide if I’m going thrifting today and with a landslide of 0-5, it didn’t want me to....
