davidgro, to asklemmy in What town/city from the Pokemon games is the most like the town/city you live in?

Well, Pokemon was sorta after my time, so I didn’t get into it until Pokemon Go - making that one my most played Pokemon game by a huge margin.

So my answer to OPs question is my actual city.

Yeah.
I’m not sure I was explicit enough: but using gesture navigation I’ve had no issues with the Home gesture, and that also allows the worthless Taskbar to be hidden.

davidgro, to asklemmy in Gamers. What was the game that got you into the hobby?

Forbidden Forest on my dad’s Commodore 128. I still have a MIDI of the title music on my phone.

After setting up Nova Launcher, using button navigation, the home button would only go home from certain places (such as the app switcher). Also the nav buttons were not centered - instead there was a Taskbar with some of the system apps, and I couldn’t change which apps were on it at all (besides disabling the apps themselves).
So I had to finally learn gesture navigation. It’s not as annoying as I expected it to be. I actually like it for the most part.

I had to change the font to the AOSP one instead of Lenovo’s one because in some places it added extra spaces to apostrophes, but conversely I had to switch the system spell check from AOSP to Gboard because it was marking as misspelled any word that was followed by a period. (Like that one, or this one.)

It doesn’t support work profile and therefore apps like Island or Shelter - but does have a built-in app copying system. It’s not as good though, I copied Chrome and couldn’t find a way to log it into my ‘alternative’ Google account (or even my regular one) because it says I have no Google account, then it opens Settings in my normal profile - with the account(s) - instead of the empty copy profile so I could add one the copied Chrome could see. (Can’t copy Settings or other system apps either)

Still no GPS, which is not as much of a problem for me as it used to be when I played Pokemon Go all the time

Stuff like that, nothing I’m considering a serious problem.

I bought one of these from China, using it right now (in the US). It definitely has some quirks, but does what I bought it for (gaming) very well indeed.

davidgro, to asklemmy in What's the point of gendered words in certain languages?

Thank you, Today I learned that grammatical gender can in fact have purpose. Some questions though:

In that first example for Agreement, does this depend on the nouns in question coincidentally having different gender, or does the grammar enforce that? (Such as switching one if they would otherwise match - although that might conflict with the Derivation thing.) And can a sentence in those languages refer to 3 or more nouns? That would seem to break the disambiguation effect.

That’s the first on topic Testa I’ve seen in years.

That’s pretty much all it is as far as I’m concerned.

Hover your mouse pointer over those numbers on the webpage (which was coded by the Lemmy devs) - It says things like “2 points • 4 Upvotes • 2 Downvotes”

Reddit didn’t invent those terms.

Gisnep

davidgro, to til in til: Benford's law: real life number are not evenly disribued, 1 occur 30% of the time

The percentages change. At the lower end, in binary every number that isn’t 0 itself starts with a 1.

This fact is actually used to save one bit in the format that computers usually use to store floating point (fractional instead of integer) numbers.

Wrong slashes.

davidgro, to asklemmy in If you could travel to any fictional world, which one would you pick and what would you do there?
