contextual_somebody,

Yeah, because it’s so morally defensible to eliminate all of the developmentally disabled and republicans.

contextual_somebody,

Thank you. That’s much less enraging answer than what I’d imagined

contextual_somebody,

As far as I know, people don’t homebrew Reddit.

Lemmy probably feels like Reddit when it first started, all warm cuddly and friendly to newcomers eager to discuss and collaborate around central topics.

I joined reddit on the tailwind, so it was all echo chamber, we hate newcomers, gatekeeping, automod frenzy, too many rulebreakers, too many rules, etc I could be wrong, but thats what I imagine it used to be like.

contextual_somebody,

I don’t know if that’s fair. Contemporary “conservatism” is pretty indefensible.

They have destroyed social programs and the middle class. Tax cuts for the rich drove up enormous, insurmountable debt. The war on drugs. There were no WMD’s in Iraq. Guns take precedence over kids. Due to voter suppression and gerrymandering, they are vastly overrepresented in government. They refused to let Democratic presidents appoint Supreme Court judges. They are okay with stealing migrant kids from their parents and hiding razor wire in the Rio Grande. They are broadly xenophobic, homophobic, and misogynistic. They support Putin…

And a bunch of “fuck your feelings” spoiled adult babies who can’t accept that their dumbass, tub-of-lard dipshit president lost tried to overthrow the government.

contextual_somebody,

Lol “bigotry”. Conservatism isn’t an identity. Their policies are literally xenophobic.

contextual_somebody,

You ever notice on language drop downs, that the flag for Portuguese is 🇧🇷? Soon, CUZ. Soon.

contextual_somebody,

Starting to think this guy might not be a quantum physicist

contextual_somebody,

I’m from the Deep South. You couldn’t tell by my accent. I moved away for college and lived overseas and on both coasts. I didn’t know what a “sun shower” was until I was in my mid/late twenties and said “the devil is beating his wife” in front of my friends. That’s the only term for it I had ever heard up to that point.

contextual_somebody,

Everything’s an STD if you try hard enough.

TIL the military cannot enlist a recruit with an IQ measured lower than 80 and is required to keep enlisted individuals with an IQ of 81-92 to less than 20% of the armed forces in active duty. (www.law.cornell.edu)

(a)The number of persons originally enlisted or inducted to serve on active duty (other than active duty for training) in any armed force during any fiscal year whose score on the Armed Forces Qualification Test is at or above the tenth percentile and below the thirty-first percentile may not exceed 20 percent of the total...

contextual_somebody,

Not really. Some police forces have rejected candidates bc of high scores on entrance tests, but there’s no universal policy.

contextual_somebody, (edited )

Some police forces, not “the police”. This phrasing makes it sound like it’s a universal policy. It isn’t and it’s rare, but it has happened.

contextual_somebody,

I have it. It took years to get diagnosed and it was making me SICK. I’ve had reactions from breathing the air where they’re cooking meat. It’s no joke

contextual_somebody,

The world’s grossest mattress. 2012-2023

What's a band that you like that was gone way too soon?

For example, a band like Joy Division. Two masterpiece albums in the form of Unknown Pleasures and Closer, and the untimely death of Ian Curtis cut it all short. They were even heading into the direction that New Order eventually went in, and it would have been interesting to see what Ian Curtis would have done if they fully...

contextual_somebody,

Slint. They broke up before dropping one of the greatest, most influential albums of all time.

contextual_somebody,

Listen to Spiderland and remember that it was recorded by college kids in the 1980’s.

Call out post for a particular karma farmer on kbin.social (kbin.social)

@pollodiabolo - this user is a karma whore of epic proportions and they have made a shit load (10-15+) accounts on kbin that boost and upvote each other while sometimes mass downvoting others that have posts trending towards the top - all to farm karma....

contextual_somebody,

I had year old posts on my front page yesterday, but today I don’t. I have absolutely no idea why or what I did differently.

contextual_somebody,

Although it’s only been a couple of days, I feel more connected here. You don’t have conversations on Reddit anymore unless you’re a in a small subreddit. If you don’t comment on a Reddit post within the first hour, no one sees it. It’s not about karma, it’s about engagement and community.

contextual_somebody,

Everyone’s talking about Lyme disease, but I got Alpha-Gal allergy from a lone star tick. I got sick AF for a long time before an allergist finally thought to test me. I never had a tick that I let swell up with blood. A mere bite can get you.

contextual_somebody,

Nope. It’s not just red meat either. It’s all mammal products and some kinds of seaweed. So no gelatin or carrageenan, which means I have to have some medicines compounded.

lemmy apps you should try and experiment with (lemmy.world)

I made a folder with my fav lemmy apps that I tried so far, and they are sorted by favorite to less favorite. By far, wefwef is my most used and I do switch to lifoff sometimes. Also, the official lemmy app is really not bad compared to reddit’s official app. I would say try all of them and see which one works the best for...
