Steal like an artist! Isn’t all art stolen in some way or another?
That said, I hate reposts…but I’m not gonna neg or police anyone for it. I do wish we had a decent system for taming it though. Reddit reposts were out of control.
I only see a handful of communities posts, but miss a lot from smaller communities that aren’t as active but do get daily posts. Reddit blended in smaller communities really well and it’s something I’m struggling with here.
Makes me wonder if we’ll all just end up good friends or fade into obscurity if Lemmy doesn’t take off. There’s a good amount of discussion on here but it’s still small enough that you kind of know folks.
Complex internet services fail in interesting ways as they grow in size and complexity. Twitter’s recent issues show how failures emerge slowly over time as relationships between components degrade. Meta’s quick launch of Threads demonstrates how platform investments can compound over time, allowing them to quickly build on...
The Flipside is also excellent at providing balanced views and counterpoints. It’s a newsletter rather than a site though. (Full disclosure: that’s a referral link. I figured why not).
I’m also partial to The Week which also presents a wide array of views - though it admittedly leans left.
Fact is, the Lemmy ecosystem needs money to handle the growing server reqirements as more people migrate as well as the development cost of new features (I know Lemmy is OSS but the devs should still get some compensation for their effort)....
I’m not sure if you’ve tried this PWA called Wefwef but it feels like a fully featured Apollo client for Lemmy already. You just go to the site and add it to your home screen. No beta to sign up for. No TestFlight link. Just add the PWA....
We're reaching the end of an era wherein billions of dollars of investor money was shovelled into tech startups to build large user-bases, and now those companies (now monoliths) are beginning to constrict their user-bases and squeeze for every single penny they can possibly extract. Fair or not....
I’ve wanted to do this too for about a year but I see no benefit since most addresses I correspond with are unencrypted. One-way encryption is negligibly any better - unless I’m seriously misunderstanding Proton.
I’d switch to @iCloud.com but that just feels goofy.
Does anyone else use the android app Connect for Lemmy? It reminds me of Infinity for Reddit. If you use it, do you like it better than Jerboa? I also found another new Lemmy app called Liftoff....
