Last time, the shows went to air without the writers. IIRC the way it worked was that they did away with sketches and monologues so there was no writing, basically just interviews and improv. Leno did write his own monologue at one point, despite being a WGA member and deservedly caught shit for it.
Letterman and Conan paid for the writers salary out of their own pocket for the duration of the strike.
SNL and Colbert set up live shows to raise money for the striking writers.
All of this was done in solidarity with the writers, which were never replaced or supplemented throughout the entire 08-09 strike.
Infinite Loop (∞ Loop), Flow, Desert Golfing, Simon Tatham’s Puzzle Pack, and various card games are some of the games I play just to kill time or keep myself stimulated while listening to something.
Like another commenter said, Mopidy can do it all in one instance. It works, but I personally find its integration with MPD clients to be a bit clunky so I don’t use it all that much.
Personally I use Snapcast as an endpoint, plain MPD for local files, and navidrome for remote access to my library.
Snapcast supports Spotify endpoints, so I just switch to my Spotify stream when I want to listen to Spotify and to my MPD stream when I want to listen to local stuff.
This is more of an ecosystem than a single solution though, so it may not be what you’re looking for.
