The complaint about transphobes is legit. Fuck transphobes. The rest of it though...

OP of the linked post is a woman (I assume the "comrade/them" bit is some hexbear meme).

Either way, the "basedcount" commenter is misgendering her, likely intentionally.

Reddit, since I never got into twitter. Also I don't think kbin currently has a way to just see microblog posts by people you're following, you end up seeing all the content from the hashtags of the magazines you're subscribed to. I think that would need to be separated to allow for twitter-like usage.

The irony is that if they were merely antifascists that were dunking on racists and transphobes, a lot of people would genuinely appreciate them. The tankie brain-rot ruins that though.

cacheson,
@cacheson@kbin.social avatar

On the contrary, mocking tankies and fascists wherever they are found is good and necessary.

cacheson,
@cacheson@kbin.social avatar

As I alluded to in another comment, I'm not necessarily against the dunking itself, I'm against the death cult ideology that they bring with them. If you find that kind of mockery annoying, then this probably isn't a community you want to involve yourself in.

cacheson,
@cacheson@kbin.social avatar

I won't normally try to correct people on it, but fascists and tankies aren't quite the same. The latter are vile authoritarians, but fascism is a more specific thing, even if it's still kind of fuzzy and hard to nail down.

Though if you just meant it as a joke, carry on. o7

That's in progress. The reason for the recent flurry of activity on this community is that hexbear recently federated with sh.itjust.works, and the users of both instances seem to now be pretty unhappy with that decision.

I mean, a classless society would be a genuinely good thing. It's very important that your means of creating said society matches the values that you want that society to have, though. Authoritarian communists fail pretty hard on that front.

This Comm is Racist Thought-Terminating Nonsense (hexbear.net)

@goat, you are the only person who posts on this server, with zero engagement. No likes, no comments, nothing (keep in mind I’m sorting by “active” lmfao). You are posting complete nonsense to yourself, it’s pathetic. Edit: this post has more likes than any other one on this entire comm in months💀...

Fixed it

I actually rejoined this community with the new round of Hexbear drama. Figured there should be some good material. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I just noticed this edit. Literally no?

Looks like Hexbear might be ignoring non-local upvotes

Don't you think you've created enough dead communities?

cacheson,
@cacheson@kbin.social avatar

It looks like the post to personalfinance doesn't show up in the threads section of your profile, but it does show up in the overview. So that's weird.

Usually when a thread or comment fails to propagate to other instances, you can edit it to force a retry. Maybe that would help here.

In general, for bug mitigation:

  • Don't block any domains, otherwise random stuff will get hidden
  • After making a post, go to the "newest" view and upvote it so that it actually gets sorted correctly in the "hot" view instead of buried
  • The error that you get when posting doesn't seem to affect anything, the post still gets made

Should post this to @MagHub. This one is just for posts that are looking for a magazine.

It looks like you've only posted it to @MagHub, which is relatively small. There's other places to post new communities, @newcommunities being the largest one.

The kbin software doesn't yet support having multiple admins per instance, so that's the main blocker AFAIK.

How to Enable Bot Content from Lemmy? (kbin.social)

I'm a mod over at lemmy.ca/c/torontobluejays, and a subscriber there who subs from Kbin mentioned in a post that they have not been able to see the bot-posted game day threads that are posted for each days Blue Jays Game. I've created an account here to confirm that, and it's the same for me as well. I also don't see any...

The same thing seems to be happening with [email protected] and [email protected]. The former hasn't had a post show up on kbin since July 13th, while the later doesn't appear to have any posts at all. Initially I was thinking maybe it was due to the lemmy bug that mistakenly marks some connected instances as inactive and stops sending them updates. It may be specifically because these are bot accounts, though.

What seems to be happening is that your post is being sorted incorrectly in the default "hot" view. This was also happening when I first joined kbin, albeit without the error page when posting. Your "logged out" image shows the "newest" sort order, however.

The workaround is to immediately go back to the magazine's main page after posting and switch to the "newest" sort order. Your post should then show up at the top. Upvote your own post, and then it should appear correctly at or near the top of the default "hot" view.

cacheson,
@cacheson@kbin.social avatar

Gotcha. On my end I haven't blocked any domains, so I've just been experiencing the sorting bug.

cacheson,
@cacheson@kbin.social avatar

I see your test posts on your profile. Try the workaround that I suggested above?

cacheson,
@cacheson@kbin.social avatar

It sounds like you might be having some overlapping issues. Since the "error on post" thing started happening, I've noticed that new posts won't show up in the default "hot" ordering. I assume that this is a sorting bug and they show up at the bottom of it. This was also happening when I first joined kbin, although the error page on post thing wasn't happening then.

The workaround seems to be to go back to the magazine's main page after posting, and sort by "new". Your post should then show up at the top. Upvote your own post, and then when you go back to the default "hot" ordering it should show up at or near the top, as normal.

Hopefully this fixes at least one of those issues. Good luck with everything.

A big problem i see liberals having when trying to change the minds of both leftists and conservatives, is an inability to even consider any aspect of another’s perspective, and a belief in one’s own perceptions as objective reality. In doing so, they will argue against their perception of others beliefs, rather than actually discussing and finding what those beliefs are, or where those beliefs come from.

I've noticed this a lot, but mainly on the internet, especially with people that I have either a more distant social connection with or none whatsoever. It's especially visible when talking about guns, since that's a subject where the average conservative is significantly more well-informed than the average liberal (I say this as a leftist, not a conservative). The liberals that engage in these arguments seem to be fully convinced that they are in fact more informed, even though they tend to have an active aversion to guns, rather than an interest that would motivate them to learn more.

In-person results are better. There's a level of politeness that comes with interacting face to face, plus some level of mutual respect and trust that comes with social connections. I've managed to significantly shift the opinions of a number of my friends on the subject. I could be in a bit of a left libertarian-leaning bubble, though. The current cultural climate is probably also significant. The threat of an active fascist movement in the US is a pretty decent motivator. A very large portion of liberal internet commentators seem to be unmoved, though.

You're perhaps not wrong about the choice of community, especially after the hexbear fiasco. OP isn't an ML though, they're an anarchist.

There might just be a lag on it? When I changed the sidebar on my magazine a few days ago it didn't change on the lemmy side. Just checked back now and it's updated.

cacheson,
@cacheson@kbin.social avatar

Kbin apparently federates upvotes but not downvotes. I guess it's an attempt to be polite? Kinda frustrating though.

In the future, our willingness to surgically remove sexual organs, including breasts, from transgener youth under 18 will be looked at the same way we now look back on lobotomies.

It’s just wild that we remove sexual organs -which is irreversible- from those who aren’t sexually mature yet, rather than relying on therapeutics that are reversible until they’re of age. Especially since so many trans youth also suffer from other mental heath issues. Those issues at least should be looked into and...

Yep, or at the very least it's highly attractive to bigots. Let's just not, ya know?

cacheson,

Kbin doesn't actually have a feature for blocking instances. What you blocked is the lemmy.world domain, which means posts that count as links to lemmy.world will be blocked. That behavior is also fairly inconsistent.
