asterfield,

Negative information is still information. Knowing something isn’t worth the time/money can still be helpful.

Disclaimer: didn’t watch the video in question

asterfield,

After watching the video, I thought it was pretty solid. Only 1 of the 4 was mostly bad, the rest just had sharp edges that the viewer needed to be comfortable with before launching in.

I’m not saying Linus isn’t guilty of clickbait and junk content to some degree, but this one felt good to me :)

Poilievre opens up 15 point lead over Trudeau on preferred Prime Minister tracking (Nanos) (nanos.co)

Never invade Russia in the winter. Never fight a land war in Asia. Never go for a third term as Prime Minister in Canada. It makes the electorate hate you. I don’t complain much about his policies, but Trudeau is screwing his own party over and now we might end up with the Trumpiest of Canadian politicians as PM.

asterfield,

which clown?

asterfield,

yeah agreed, but he’s not the only clown in the room

asterfield,

I don’t have anything important to say, what do you want from me? :P

asterfield,

I can do notions, hunches, and my old shoes. Final offer

asterfield,

Does the speed limit count if you’re walking?

asterfield,

I’m disappointed with the way they’re puppeting the corpse of my favorite show.

The writers lost track of the characters’ personalities. It’s not character growth, it’s wild left turns

asterfield,

I had some luck with this yesterday.

Attempt #1 was editing in blender, and it took 3h to get the file to slice correctly (I needed to remesh in blender sculpting tools to get the overlapping shapes to work).

Attempt #2 was importing the STL in openscad and doing a union() of the two objects. That worked perfectly the first time and took 20min. (But it was way more annoying to pick exactly the right number to translate all the shapes around)

asterfield,

Isn’t a more honest phrasing that Canada Post the public service costs 1bn/year to have in the country?

I think i still prefer having a mail system even if it costs money. Same as having police and roads.

asterfield,

I’m not even sure I mind low speed rail. I just want more and cheaper lines to everywhere. It’s way nicer than busses.

High speed can come afterwards if we can get public thinking behind trains as regular transport

asterfield,

I agree with you mostly.

But I’ll point out that 200km/h is still ~50% higher than highway speeds, with no traffic, and you can still focus on other things. So even low end rail is still better than driving.

asterfield,

For a fair comparison I’m assuming that most people will speed on the highway

asterfield,

I really enjoyed reading this, in a grim sad kind of way. It’s a fascinating peek into the living conditions of a different era.

asterfield,

I don’t know how to explain why I like Hemingway. His work just feels hyper true in a way. Him and Steinbeck both stay with me for a while after I put the book down.

asterfield,

Reddit doesn’t seem to understand what their platform is for. If people are adding “reddit” to the end of google searches, it shows that they want brands to talk less, and real people to talk more.

asterfield,

This is a really good idea. Maybe someone can make a site called “Too powerful” that lists the bloated instances or something.

However: I’m not super deep into lemmy architecture, but what would stop the instance ops from creating a “sister instance” the the same rules and owners?
