The lemmy.world admins did that with hexbear and received some backlash for being “overzealous and trigger happy.” This is one of those scenarios where the admins will always receive criticism for the timing of their actions. There will always be some who believe it’s premature and/or an overstep and others who believe it’s a long overdue action bordering on “negligence.” They’re damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

Frankly, I believe that if the best time to do something was yesterday, then the next best time to do it will always be today. And that’s what’s happened here.

In the US the only people more dangerous to be around than cops are the people that desperately wish they were cops.

I guess you’re talking from experience and not just what the media reports on.

Sure.

I, personally, have had 0 bad experiences with law enforcement.

That’s good.

Really puts things into perspective when I have my own experiences to contrast what I read online.

LOL I’m sure the irony of this statement is completely lost on you.

What are you talking about?

Say something of substance, if you can.

Oh I already did… But as I thought, the irony of your own point was completely lost on you. If you insist on having your hand held in an effort to get you to understand that the experiences of others are just as valid as your own, fine. But only one of us here is suggesting the other thinks the way they do because of “WhAt ThE mEdIa RePoRts On.” Got it? Good. We’re done here.

‘Archer’s’ Final Mission: Sterling and His Frenemies Sign Off After 142 Episodes of Awful Behavior. We Will Miss Them. (variety.com)

I first heard about FX’s “Archer” in the ready room of VAQ-135, a navy squadron who were serving an interminable deployment aboard an aircraft carrier somewhere near Midway Island. (This sounds very much like a humblebrag that Sterling Archer would obnoxiously drop into conversation). It was 2010, and the pilots had lost...

I look at Supernatural as a prime example of this. End it after 5 seasons. It could have been great, but seasons 6-11? or so were really bad IIRC. There was a great story arc that they should have just left alone.

The X-Files suffered from the same thing. Season 5’s finale, appropriately titled “The End” was supposed to be the series finale. The X-Files movie (1998) was supposed to wrap up the main storyline of the show and transition the franchise into a series of big budget films. But before the movie was even released in theaters Fox got cold feet about losing one of their prime-time ratings juggernauts and negotiated a renewal to keep the show on TV for another four seasons… That’s when things really started to fall apart. The show’s main “mythology” storyline was always kind of a mess but in order to keep it going after the movie they had to do a lot of reconning.

Don’t get me wrong, some of my favorite stand alone/MoTW episodes are from seasons 6 and 7, for example, Drive written by Vince Gilligan and guest starring Bryan Cranston. The Unnatural written and directed by David Duchovny. And X-Cops, which saw Mulder and Scully being reluctantly followed by a camera crew who happened to be filming an episode of the reality TV series Cops with the local PD (this episode was also written by Vince Gilligan). So it’s not a total loss. But sometimes I wonder what could’ve been had Chris Carter and Fox stuck to the original plan to spin the franchise off into a series of films.

Edit: Sorry, everybody. I know this is a discussion about Archer and I’m replying to a comment that mentioned Supernatural by tying it to a third show, so I’m wildly off topic. But I couldn’t help myself. I’ve been rewatching the series and I guess I had some thoughts about The X-Files that I needed to get out lol.

I will say this makes me think I should delete ofd my hard drive any season past 5 for x files now cause I never even get that high and it seems bad if this is how passionate you were about it.

Lol nah, it’s not like that, I think seasons 6 and 7 were okay. There’s a lot of good episodes there! It’s just the turning point where the series started having a lot of bad/forgettable episodes and the overall mythology went off the rails. Seasons 8 and 9 on the other hand do nothing for me and won’t be missed if you’re trying to free up a few GBs on your plex server or something.

The reboot seasons (10 and 11) from 2016 are mostly misses EXCEPT for two episodes written and directed by Darin Morgan. S10E03 “Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster” and S11E04 “The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat”. They’re both comedic MoTW episodes and hold their own against the best comedic MoTW episodes from the original series. I highly recommend any X-Files fans who didn’t give the revival a chance watch those two specific episodes. They’re classic X-Files stories.

I never watched The X-Files but with winter coming up it’s always nice to have some new (to me) shows to watch.

Well if you liked those early seasons of Supernatural you’ll probably like The X-Files too. They both owe a lot to a short lived show from the '70s called Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

Kolchak: The Night Stalker inspired The X-Files in the '90s, which in turn inspired Supernatural and Fringe in the early 2000s. Three great shows were built on the back of one series that’s been more or less forgotten.

I guess I should just start getting used to the people of Lemmy calling literally every picture file with text in it a meme, huh?

You’re in a community where every post is a screenshot of a microblogging hot take, what do you actually expect to see?

Analysis / Bias

The Western Journal is a news and opinion website with a story selection that always favors the right and is negative toward the left. There is the frequent use of moderately loaded language in headlines such as this: The Clinton State Department’s Major Security Breach That Everyone Is Ignoring. The Western Journal typically sources its information from credible media outlets, though story selection and wording usually spin information favorably to the right. They have also failed several fact checks.

Finally, during the 2020 Presidential election, they have promoted misinformation. They also consistently promote misinformation regarding Covid-19 and vaccines. See failed fact check below.

You answered your own question with that phrasing. They don’t have any evidence, if they did they would’ve posted it already, they just want to believe it isn’t.

Hearing the quote; this is nonsense

No it’s not. The headline is entirely accurate. It does not claim that he confused the character for a real person anywhere, did you actually read the article? It only reports that Trump cited a fictional character, which is 100% true. And it acknowledges that he was likely referring to one of the actors who has portrayed Hannibal Lecter on film. There’s nothing nonsensical or unreasonable about the reporting in this article. Nobody in their right mind goes around referring to Iron Man or Marty McFly as their favorite actors, now do they?

ZeroCool, (edited )
@ZeroCool@feddit.ch avatar

Yes, the headline is accurate.

I’m well aware.

ZeroCool, (edited )
@ZeroCool@feddit.ch avatar

Lmao my god you’re just tripping over yourself to make excuses for Trump.

Example: saying Tom Hiddleston supports you might have people not know who that is. Saying the actor who played Loki might reach a larger audience

Your example is absolute bullshit. He didn’t say “the actor who played Hannibal Lecter” now did he? He called him Hannibal Lecter. You apologists always give yourselves away because you ignore what he actually said and start substituting it with what you wish he would’ve said instead because it sounds less stupid.

ZeroCool, (edited )
@ZeroCool@feddit.ch avatar

No, he didn’t. Here’s what Donald Trump said verbatim:

“I said, that’s Silence of the Lamb. You know what that is? Has anybody seen Silence of the Lambs? Hannibal Lecter, how great an actor was he? You know why I like him? Because he said on television on one of the: ‘I love Donald Trump,’ so I love him. I love him. I love him. He said that a long time ago and once he said that he was in my camp I was in his camp. I don’t care if he was the worst actor I’d say he was great to me.”

Go ahead and keep denying reality. I’m done with your pathetic attempts at gaslighting.

Although I do agree, moving to Firefox is the simplest option and will cover the vast majority of people’s needs.
