Tujio,

Mostly weird abbreviations and insulting nicknames.

“Cxl per Sparky e/o ssnA. Cust NFG.”

“Mark says to cancel this order at the end of A season. The customer is no fucking good, probably won’t ever show up.”

Tujio,

Eh. Bezos is rich enough he doesn’t pay taxes. He’d just move his assets into a different state and claim the interstate commerce clause or some shit.

Tujio,

Me, unfortunately. Never picked up the taste for coffee, but I accidentally got hooked on caffeine through energy drinks, which are way worse for you. Now I’m trying to acquire the taste for coffee at a late stage to wean myself off energy drinks.

Tujio,

Streetlight Manifesto. Toe to Toe is probably their weakest song. Kinda slow, lyrics aren’t great.

Christina She Don’t Know I Exist is pretty bad, but I’ll give them a bit of a pass because they wrote it when they were about 17 years old.

Tujio,

I’ll agree on 99. But I don’t really consider that one of their albums. They explicitly produced it as a bullshit cop-out to fulfill their contract with Victory Records.

An anti-affirmative action group is suing the US Military Academy at West Point over race-based admissions policies | CNN (www.cnn.com)

The US Military Academy at West Point is being sued for its race-based admissions policies by the same group that won a landmark case against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Supreme Court over affirmative action earlier this year, according to a lawsuit filed Tuesday.

Tujio,

I think there are two separate questions. The first is ‘Is the concept behind affirmative action valid?’ and the second is ‘Is the implementation of affirmative action effective, fair and just?’

I believe there shouldn’t even be a damn debate about the first question. This country has a massively problematic history with race relations and there are obviously still ripple effects in modern society, and we should take active measures to fix that. Minorities have been explicitly excluded from opportunities to gain wealth and status up until disturbingly recently, and many are still implicitly excluded from them to this day. Anybody who says that racism and the problems that come with it is a thing of the past is straight-up wrong. They are either not trying to understand the problems, or they are actively trying not to. Both of those are unacceptable to me.

The second question does merit some debate. Is it effective to simply say ‘if we have two equal candidates we’ll hire the minority’? How often does that really happen? Is it fair to do things like the NFL rewarding teams that hire a minority head coach? Is it just to implement quotas and percentages? I don’t have answers to all of these questions. I have some opinions. But as a straight white cis dude, I feel like my voice doesn’t need to be the loudest in the room in this one.

Tujio,

The lottery is either a tax on stupidity or a tax on hope.

I don’t know which is more depressing.

Tujio,

Yup. I’m a warehouse manager. The logistics/ transportation/ warehousing industry is already stretched disturbingly thin. If we take away the people who run the places, the world will grind to a halt.

"Write a Check for $11,000. She Was 26, She Had Limited Value." [Seattle Police] Officer Jokes with Police Union Leader About Killing of Pedestrian by Fellow Cop (publicola.com)

In a conversation with Mike Solan, the head of the Seattle Police Officers’ Guild, Seattle Police Department officer and SPOG vice president Daniel Auderer minimized the killing of 23-year-old student Jaahnavi Kandula by police officer Kevin Dave and joked that she had “limited value” as a “regular person” who was only...

Tujio,

Seattle PD is and has always been terrible. For a city with as little violent crime as we are, you would think that we would have a semi-competant police force. We aren’t Baltimore or Chicago or Memphis. We don’t need a violent, antagonistic, adversarial police force. Yet decade after decade, Seattle PD shows themselves to be the worst of the worst of violent white nationalists.

SPD’s training standards are embarrassingly low. SPD’s staffing numbers are embarrassing low. Rookie cops make over $100k and the right-wing pundits say it’s not enough, while first-year teachers make $55k and the right-wing pundits say it’s too much. They blame the BLM riots and say that the city betrayed them, but the average person here had absolutely zero faith in them well before the riots. Most SPD officers don’t actually live in Seattle.

Sorry if the second paragraph got a bit into unhinged-rant territory, but shit like this is infuriating. SPD is so clearly shit and needs to be purged.

Tujio,

I was at Warped Tour many years ago, talking with randos in the campground. I mentioned which bands I was there to see, and this guy gave me a huge smile and yelled ‘You’re old’ in my face.

Tujio,

There’s a big difference between being scripted and being fake. I’m not super into wrestling, but the fact that it’s scripted makes some of it more impressive. It’s full-contact daytime soaps.

Tujio,

And Washington State produces more potatoes than Idaho.

And Wisconsin has more lakes than Minnesota.

Tujio,

Same thing with the guy who named it ‘dyslexia.’

In songs sung in English, a word ending with "t" followed by "you" sometimes makes the "you" sound like "chew". Does this happen in other languages with different words/sounds?

For example, if a lyric contains “that you”, it ends up like “thatchoo”. One example of this I can think of is in Karma by Taylor Swift (I know, I know, but it’s one of the most popular songs I listen to). The line where she sings “Karma’s a relaxing thought/Aren’t you envious that for you it’s not?” sounds...

Tujio,

There are also weird German rules about article endings. A band I like has a song called “Herz Eines Trache” which means Heart of a Dragon. I don’t speak great German, so first time I heard it I wasted an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out what eine Strache is.

Tujio,

Ha. Thanks. Like I said, my Deutsch is kinda shit.
