You don’t always have to go out for lunch. Make sandwiches from supermarket ingredients. Buy a short serated knife (life the victorinox) with the round tip. You can cut bread, meat, veg AND you can butter said bread with it. Best freaken travel accessory! Make epic sandwiches in your hotel room and save money when you’re out during the day. We did this in Spain and Portugal and saved a tonne. Free hotel breakfast, cheap super market lunch, “fancy” restaurant dinner. I mean, come on!
I’ve noticed sometimes that there’s some half-baked videos or blogs or whatever that purport this or that frugal trick, but if you look at the time or math, it’s not actually frugal for you....
Or at least less so than Reddit. It’s good, but, I can’t put my finger on it. Even when the content is good, the servers are up, and I’m getting notifications responding to comments, it’s never come to me doomscrolling for hours....
It’s like listening to the best band in your town and then comparing it to the music at the top of the global charts. The pure scale means you’re gonna get better bands if you include “everyone”. But I totally also hope Lemmy gets bigger. As a platform it isn’t inferior in terms of UX. We just need everyone to switch.
There is a difference between understanding technology and doing the homework before a video. You can be super smart/experienced, hut if you don’t care to learn about the thing you’re talking about it becomes a goof off very quickly. I’ve (and many others out there) have watched enough content to know when things are straying from legitimacy.
Now that a lot of the commotion has subsided I’m just curious to know how y’all are finding the Lemmy experience in general and whether you use it regularly like you did reddit?
Happy. The only issue I have is scale. IMO there was nothing ground breaking about Reddit as either an idea or a piece of tech, it’s value mostly comes from its users. Lemmy does not have the sheer breadth from scale that I enjoyed with Reddit, but hopefully that will come.
